Episode 12

Lily’s POV

“This colour would look so good on you,” Klarissa said, holding up a yellow mini dress in front of me. We were at Factorie in the mall; Klarissa’s favourite shop.

It was gorgeous, but I was quite sure it wouldn’t suit me. I couldn’t wear something as gorgeous as that. Plus, I didn’t have money to spend on random clothes I didn’t need. Mum and I were still needing money for more important things.

We had met up at the mall this morning. It was our first time hanging out outside of school, about two weeks after we had become friends.

While at first we were awkward, like most friends are to start with, we now got on like a house on fire. I couldn’t believe that I had ever not had her in my life.

Once we’d started to share interests, we really gelled. The more I got to know her, the more I was drawn to her. I was glad that we were friends.

“I’m not so sure,” I said, running the soft, velvet fabric of the dress through my fingers. It was really gorgeous.

“Just for fun, Lily. You don’t need to buy anything,” she said, smiling.

Whenever she smiled at me, it warmed my heart. I still couldn’t believe I had a friend.

I made my way to the changing rooms.

As soon as I slid the dress over my body, I felt like a totally different person.

I felt cleaner, fresher. Normal. Better than I felt in my basic old t-shirts and ripped tights.

There was no denying that it fit perfect, as if it was made for me, and it looked pretty good.

I walked out of the changing room, standing awkwardly in front of Klarissa.

She opened her mouth like a fish, and didn’t say a word.

“Is it ugly?,” I asked, not getting the reaction I thought I would get.

“The absolute opposite.” She said.

“You look so hot in that dress,”

I smiled, twirling around.

Klarissa was blushing like crazy, and I had absolutely no idea why.

She was probably just flustered from how hot it was in the mall.

“Shame I don’t have money to buy it,” I said sadly.

“You need that dress, Lily. I’ll buy it for you,” She said.

“No way,” I said.

“To thank you for our friendship.” Klarissa smiled.

“You really don’t have to,” I said.

“You can’t stop me,” She said, winking.

I took the dress off, and put my old clothes back on.

I wandered around the store, trying to find something that would suit Klarissa. I knew she didn’t like dresses and skirts, so I avoided that.

I found a pair of denim jeans with large rips all over them, and a teal crop top to match.

“I chose an outfit for you,” I said, handing it over. I hoped that she didn’t think it was ugly.

“Omg. These are cute,” She said, and my heart felt warm. Then she went to try it on.

She walked out in her new outfit. The colour in the ends of her short hair went with the top perfectly, and her smooth legs looked so good in the ripped jeans.

“Wow,” I said.

“Does it look good,” she said, blushing.

“Yes. Very.” I said, nodding my approval.

“Thanks for picking this for me, Lily,” She said, grinning at me.

My heart danced again.

“You’re very welcome,” I smiled.

“Now, the crop top has a weird clip on the back that was a struggle to get on. So maybe it’ll be easier if you help me get it off,” she said.

I followed her to the change room, and unclipped her top easily.

“Thank you,” She said.

When she was back into her clothes, we went to the checkout to purchase the outfits. Then we went on our way to have lunch.
