Episode 38

Lily’s POV

2 months later

“You look wonderful,” one of my dad’s said, standing behind me. I had just put a dark blue sparkly dress on. It was one of the most extravagant things I had ever owned.

As soon as Dad D and Dad J (As I call them) heard about my date with Klarissa tonight, they took me shopping. They said that I needed the perfect dress to shock my girl.

I quickly brushed through my straightened hair, smiling at myself in the mirror. I looked different. More grown up.

It had been a good two months. Now that Daryl was gone, I felt like I could move on from that part of my life. It hardly crossed my mind anymore. Every day was a dream with Klarissa and my awesome friends.

It was also a dream to have my two foster dad’s. They meant the world to me. It took me some time to adjust to this new life without my mum, but now it was a reality. She still meant the world to me, but I knew it was no use being upset about her being gone. I knew that I was in good hands; she had chosen Dan and Jarred for me herself. She would be over the moon with happiness if she saw how content I was with them.

“Thanks,” I said, looking up at Dad D.

“I guess we better get you there! You don’t want to be late,”

“You better!” I said, laughing.

“I’ll drive her,” Dad J said, walking out of the kitchen.

Very soon, Dad J was pulling up out the front of the pizza restaurant.

I looked out of the window, and my breath was taken away when I saw her. She was wearing dark jeans and a purple tube top which matched perfectly with the new purple tips of her hair.

“Have an awesome time! Call us if you need anything,” Jarred said.

“I will,” I said, hopping out of the car. They had brought me a phone last month, and I was still new to it. It was a crazy piece of technology.

As soon as Klarissa saw me, she ran towards me.

“You look incredible,” she said, eyeing my dress.

I blushed.

“You look even better,”

“You like it? I thought showing a bit if skin would be sexy,” she said, laughing.

“It is,” I said, smiling. Then I wrapped my arms around her back and kissed her.

When I pulled back, she grabbed my hand, pulling me towards the shop door.

Very soon, we were seated at a table for two.

“What type of pizza do you like?” Klarissa asked, as we looked through the menu.

“I’ll try anything,” I said.

“I haven’t had much pizza in my life,”

So we ordered, and it didn’t take long for our Hawaiian pizza to arrive.

“This is delicious,” I said, biting into a slice of pizza.

“I know right. Pizza is my favourite food,” Klarissa said, smiling.

“Anyway, how’s it going at your place?” I asked. I knew things were still pretty rocky since her father had left, and her mum was struggling.

“You know when we were at the park, andโ€ฆ” She started.

“Yeah. I remember that,” I said. “How could I forget?”

“I saw him standing behind us when we were kissing. Watching us with a deathly stare. It didn’t worry me, that’s why I didn’t stop. I wanted him to see how in love I am, with a girl. When I got home, mum told me that he had been back. He had abused her physically and verbally while we weren’t there. He was mad. That’s when mum knew for sure that her life would be much better off without him. Even though it’s been difficult for her looking after all of us, Karly, Kalvin and I have been trying our hardest to help her out,”

I nodded, “that sucks that he hurt your mum, but now she’s seen what he’s like. You’re lucky he left so that you won’t have to put up with him. His abuse. His homophobia,”

“Yeah. And mum’s doing alright on her own. She’s much happier without him. She’s realised how much he’s been holding her back, and they’re really not in love anymore,”

By now, we had finished the pizza.

“That was delicious,” I said, licking my lips.

“I know right! How good is pizza?”

I nodded. “Really damn good,”

“I found something the other day,” Klarissa said, taking a piece of paper out of her clutch.

“About a week after we first met, I was already obsessed with you. I had the biggest crush on you, rightfully so,”

Lily smiled, “And there was something about you that I liked, I just wasn’t sure about it yet,”

“I drew this. A picture of you. I thought I’d give it to you to show you how you look through my eyes. How I’ve seen you since day one,”

I smiled as she passed a folded piece of paper over.

“Wow,” I said opening it.

“I didn’t realise you could draw,”

“It’s a hidden talent of mine, I guess,” she said, smiling.

“Thank you. This is so gorgeous,” I said, admiring it.

“Just like you,” Klarissa said, smiling.

My face went red as I looked at my beautiful girlfriend.

“Do you want to go for a walk now?” Klarissa asked.

I nodded, and we headed out of the store, hand in hand.

We walked in a comfortable silence, and stopped outside of what looked like a dark park. It had a creepy atmosphere to it.

“Where are we?” I asked.

“You’ll see,” Klarissa said, leading me into the park.

Around us were flat stones, and very soon I realised that we were at a cemetery.

“What are we doing here?” I asked, shivering.

“I want you to see your mum, she said, smiling.

I nodded, feeling uneasy in the dark cemetery.

“She’s here,” Klarissa said, leading me towards a flat stone amongst many others. Thousands of dead bodies buried beneath the ground.

I shivered.

She turned her phone torch on, shining it at the stone.

‘In memory of Jane Wilson. Loving mother of Lily Wilson.’

I smiled.

“She’ll be here forever. Whenever you miss her, you can pay her a visit.”

I let go of Klarissa’s hand, stepping closer to the flat stone.

“I love you mum. I miss you,” I said sadly.

“But life has been so great with my foster dad’s. Thank you for picking them,”

Klarissa grabbed my hand, rubbing her thumb over my knuckles.

“I have a little bouquet for you to give her. They’re fake, so they’ll never die. Like your love for her,”

I laughed, “That’s so cheesy. But also super cute,”

I took them from Klarissa, laying them on her grave.

“I can’t thank you and your mum enough for organising this. For not letting her get buried and forgotten with the people who don’t have families.”

“She might not have had a large family, but she had someone who loved her. It would have been a shame if there was no memory of her for you,”

I smiled at her in the darkness, and she blushed, wrapping her arms around me.

“She would be so happy of me and you, too. She would be glad that I have you. When I told her about you for the first time, she was so happy. She didn’t even question the fact that you were a girl,”

“She sounded sweet. I wish I could have properly met her,”

I nodded, “I wish you could have too,”

“I think it’s time to text my dad’s. Are you allowed to stay over for the night?” I asked.

Klarissa nodded. “Yeah, and I’m excited,”

I smiled. “Me too,”
