Deadly Desire

Itohan dressed her husband up hurriedly. Everyone was set to go. With the help of her son and Taiye, she wore him new sandals she bought for him. The church she was invited to was very far and if they don’t leave home on time, they would definitely reach there late. Nosa became violent when his legs and hands were about to be bound. He would not allow anyone come close to him. He had started removing his trouser.

“I want make you look my face Nosa” Itohan said calmly to him.

“I want make God heal you today so that nobody go tie your hand and leg again”

While Itohan was talking to him, he kept quiet and began to listen. Taiye and Efosa move quietly to him.

“See as you tear the shirt wey I wear you now now and you wan pull your trouser. You want make people see your yansh?”

Nosa began to laugh and laugh. Just when he was about removing his trouser completely, the young men held him. Itohan chained him up and he was carried into the vehicle.

In the vehicle, Nosa began to scream and talk endlessly. He tried to remove his hands from the chain, and in the process, his wrist and ankle bled. Itohan’s baby began to cry. One could not tell why the child was crying. Even after feeding the child he was still crying.

“Wetin come dey happen na?”

“Don’t worry Iya Efosa. Infact, let’s pray”

Iya Folake took over the prayer session and before she ended the prayer, the baby was already asleep. By the time they got to the church, it was already dark. Taiye drove into the premises and parked the car. It was a vigil and they could see more people trooping in. Some spread their mats and lay on it. Pending when the program will commence. They also observed that some sat in groups discussing.

“Make we find somewhere sit down until the service go start”

“Still wait in the car, let me go round first” Taiye said.

He stepped out of the car and went round the church. It was a big church indeed. The place was well lighted. Taiye entered the church and saw people sitting patiently waiting for the service to begin. He walked straight to the altar and lay on it. For several minutes he was their communing with God. When he stood, he was as one who was drunk. His eyes were teary. He moved swiftly out of the church.

“You tay oo”

“What happened?”

“I went to check out the altar. The power of God is there. Jesus is waiting”

“Ehen”

“Yes. I would have told you if the altar was polluted maami. You remember the church Baba Tunde invited us one time”

“O yes!”

“You remembered I checked the altar out”

Iya Folake nodded as her eyes lit up.

“I told you the altar was polluted. For as I lay in that altar, I heard so many voices crying for vengeance. I actually saw several people especially women and young girls standing on the altar with blood on their body”

“Hmmm!”

“I ran that day. Till today I never stepped into that church. If I discover that an altar is polluted, I run away. So many Pastors started well, but at the end they deviated and soil their hands”

“Na God go help us”

“Amen”

“I will stay with your husband in the car

Get yourself chairs and relax”

With Nosa and Taiye in the car, others went inside the church to get seated.

Obiora the security man sat outside eating pounded yam and Egusi soup. He licked his fingers and smiled. The thought that he will soon be wealthy brought more smiles to his wrinkled face.

“I have suffered enough. It is time for enjoyment. My family will see me in a different way henceforth. They will accord me my respect”

He moulded the pounded yam, swallowed and nodded his head. He didn’t see the maid standing beside him. She was amused by the big balls of pounded yam the security man was swallowing.

“Your throat will soon tear” She said startling him and laughing at the same time

“I saw you talking to yourself. You were talking, nodding your head and smiling”

“Ehen!”

“What is ehen!, I saw you nah!”

“Did you hear anything?”

“Nooo!” She said shrugging her shoulder

Obiora smiled.

“I was just enjoying my food jare. It is my girlfriend that brought it oo. She just showed me love tonight, because I told her I will soon be rich”

The maid laughed hilariously.

“Look at the way she garnished this soup”

The maid looked at the soup, picked a meat and started eating it.

“Hmmm!, She try sha. The soup is tasty”

She sat beside him and both of them attacked the food. When they were through, she told him she was going out.

“Aah!, To where na?”

“My guy is in town and I need to be with him tonight”

“Ehen”

“What of madam?. Who will take care of her?”

“Please!, Please!. I have tried enough. I have my life to live”

“In her madness we are still being paid oo” Obiora reminded her.

“I know!. I need to see my guy nah!. Eghosa is returning tomorrow and I would have returned before him. Abeg, I need to catch cruise tonight. Don’t worry, I will wet your hand when I return” She said.

Obiora smiled broadly.

“But time na almost 9pm oo”

“Na true jare. Enjoy yourself”

The maid returned to the house, refreshed herself and left the compound. Obiora’s joy knew no bound.

“Everything is working for my good. Eghosa travelled. The maid has gone cruising” He laughed.

“Madam na me and you tonight. I am not the cause of your madness, but I will benefit from it”

He stood up, cleared the plates and got prepared for the rituals.

Service has started. Everyone is in the church except Nosa. They could not bring him inside the church.

“How God go take deliver him na” Itohan asked so worried.

“If we allow him in, the church will turn upside down. Let’s wait to see the Pastor for special prayer for him” Iya suggested.

Taiye locked the car and left Nosa inside the car.

While seated Iya Folake beckoned to her son.

“Please bring him in”

Accompanied by Efosa, Taiye went and brought him in still bound in chains. He was given a seat beside Itohan. The church was crowded and Nosa stared at the people around him. He would laugh and talk, but his display was swallowed up by the activities in the church.

Pastor David and his wife Zinna took the microphone. After several hours of declarations, Pst David shouted in a loud voice.

“Who is he that saith a thing and it cometh to pass when the Lord has not ordained it” he said moving towards where Itohan was sitting.

He pointed straight at Nosa who was held, bound in chains.

“You foul spirit, I command you to loose your hold now in the name of Jesus.”

Immediately, Nosa jumped out of the chair and started speaking in strange voice.

“Who are you to command me?, I have been given the right to hold him in chains and he remains chained”

Pst David responded with anger and power.

“I command you in the name of Jesus to keep quiet, you spirit of insanity, you have no right over that body. The blood of Jesus has set him free”

“Church arise and begin to release fire upon this body”

As the church prayed, there was a battle for the ownership of Nosa’s body. The demons that have been unleashed in his body threw Nosa up and down. The fire was too much for the demon to take. The demons fled leaving Nosa like a helpless heap on the ground yelling

“Please help me”

He stood up and was surprised he was in the church. He kept looking round as the church started jubilating.

“What happened to me?, How did I get here?. Please get the chains off me”

Quickly, Itohan rushed to him and unlocked the chains.

“God has set you free from the spirit of insanity. Whosoever the lord has set free is free indeed. Affliction shall not rise again”

Pastor David full of excitement said

“Psalm 1:26 says, when the Lord turn again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter and our tongue with singing. Then said they among the heathen, the Lord has done great things for them. Tonight we are going to give quality praise for the miracles since the program started”

The choir praised God. The glory of God descended and took over the church. Itohan and everyone danced to the glory of God. Her dance steps changed and her face radiated joy. For as many that entered the church with one problem or the other, God settled them.

Zinna, the wife of Pastor David later led the church into a warfare prayer, rebuking every conspiracy against the members of the church and house of God.

“May all conspiracy against the church of God, marriages, our nation and members of the church turn to foolishness. You seeking for the fruit of the womb, job opportunities, life partner, receive it right now in the name of Jesus. Every ancestral hinderance be broken now in the name of Jesus…”

The members began to pray because they understand that the kingdom of God suffer violence and only the violence will take by force what belongs to them through the name of Jesus.
