Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 47

Eghosa got home and locked himself in. He was too excited. He never thought he would see Nicole but for God’s intervention, who made their path to cross again through his daughter.

After he left Nicole’s house, he had wanted to come visit. On several occasions, he would carry his phone and dial her line but quickly cut the call. He didn’t want to create any negative impression.

He was disappointed when he discovered that she locked up her house. No one around could tell him where she went to.

Eghosa had always loved her. What would make him go all the way looking for solution for her, if not love. Wherever he went he carried Nicole in his heart.

How excited is he because they now live in the same street.

“Is God not wonderful?” He mused.

He spread himself on the bed smiling sheepishly.

For Nicole, the smile on her face would not stop. She never expected to come across Eghosa. There was no reason for their coming together. When he left her house, she could not dial his number because she was ashamed. Ashamed that he would always see her as a woman who had been mad before.

The Eghosa that walked into her house is a different man. She felt a strong attraction between them. He was so handsome that she kept gazing at him.

When she went to bed that night, she dreamt again. This time it was raining. Eghosa ran towards her with an umbrella and shielded her. She woke up and stared at the ceiling a long time before going back to sleep again.

As the days went by, their friendship blossomed. Every weekend, Eghosa would take her out on a date and she was always catching fun with him. Over a bottle of soft drink, Eghosa told her one day to forgive her parents.

“They showed me that I am not important in their life”

“Where do you think you would have been if God had not forgiven you. You must learn to let go of grudges. Drop the extra baggage and forge ahead. Whether you like it or not they are your parents. You can’t throw them away. By now, they would have realized their mistakes” He said.

“Alright, I will think about it”

Eghosa smiled.

“If you sleep over it you will never forgive. Don’t think it, just forgive”

“Do you know what I have done for my parents?”

“Do you know what God has done for you?. Whether you like it or not, people will offend you. They will deliberately step on you”.

“Alright”

They drank silently.

“I don’t have their numbers anymore”

Eghosa laughed.

“You can’t be serious”

“I am”

Eghosa gave her the numbers because he still has them.

“I will call them when I get home”

“Call them now”

Nicole dialled her father’s line and waited for him to answer the phone. The phone rang severally but no response.

“I will call him when I get home” She repeated.

It was clear that Nicole was head overheels in love with her former driver, but didn’t know how to express it. When she looked at him, she couldn’t say whether he felt same with her. They were so close especially as Ehis was always coming around.

Eghosa travelled and still placed his daughter in the care of Nicole. He was to spend just two weeks. During this period, they communicated through the phone. If Nicole didn’t receive any call from him it would look as if she was sick. Two weeks passed, he didn’t return from his business trip. He promised to return the following week.

It was 5:20pm and it was drizzling lightly. Nicole drove down the street and met Ehis consoling a boy her age. She parked the car and stepped down.

“What are you doing here?”

“The boy is crying”

Nicole discovered that Ehis was still on uniform. The boy kept crying and rolling on the ground.

“Why are you crying?” Nicole asked.

“I lost my money. I don’t know how I lost it. My mummy will kill me”

Nicole looked at the tray on the floor. Few oranges remaining on it.

“How much did you misplace?”

“N400”

“Just N400”

“Yes ma”

Nicole opened her car, from her purse, she gave him N400. He thanked her and counted the money. The boy smiled and she noticed how skinny he was.

“What is your name?” She asked.

“Daniel” He said placing the tray on this head

“Daniel, you are such a handsome boy. Where is your house?”

“It is far oo. Very far!”

The boy mentioned the place.

“I know the place” She said looking at her wrist watch.

“Let me take you home”

Daniel was afraid, but Nicole assured him not to worry. The boy brought down the tray and entered the car.

“Ehis you are late today, why don’t you rush home. I will visit you when I return”

With that Ehis walked home while Nicole drive out of the street. Nicole noticed that Daniel kept glancing at her and she smiled reassuredly to him. When she entered the boy’s street, he smiled.

“That house there” He pointed.

Nicole parked the car in front of a house and they stepped down. She followed the boy to the back of the house and met a young woman of same age cooking with firewood. The woman stood up immediately, while Daniel went to stand by his mother. Nicole greeted and assured her that there was no problem. She only brought Daniel home because it was too late for a young child to be out at that time. The woman thanked Nicole and returned to her seat. Nicole took her leave but when she was about entering her car, she noticed that the boy ran up to her and hugged her with tears in his eyes.

“Thank you ma!, Mother will be able to buy drugs for daddy”

Holding the boys hand, she went back to the boy’s mother.

The woman was surprised that Nicole had not gone.

“Your husband is sick?” She asked.

“Can I see him”

The woman led the way and she met Daniel’s father. She observed one part of his body is paralyzed.

“He needs medical attention”

“I know but I no get money” She said.

“I will get you money tomorrow so that you can take him to the hospital.”

“Oh, thank you ma” Daniel’s mum said as tears dropped from her eyes.

“It’s alright. When I come tomorrow we will talk.

Nicole hugged Daniel and took her leave. Nicole came down from her car and opened her gate only to discover that Ehis is still on uniform sitting on the pavement. She rushed to her.

“What happened?”

“The gate is locked. I can’t go in. The maid didn’t come to pick me up today, that’s why I returned late. I had to trek all that distance from school”

Both of them walked down to Ehis house and she discovered the girl was right.

“It’s very late oo. Where could Nancy have gone to?”

“I don’t know oo”

They returned to Nicole’s house. She opened her gate and drove her car in. She bath Ehis and got her one of her t-shirt to wear. The cloth was big but there was nothing she could have done. She prepared supper. They ate and Ehis went straight to bed.

Nicole called Eghosa and informed him of the new development. She also called her parents to know how they are doing. Ever since she reconciled with her parents, she had peace and she was always happy.
