Episode 27

Dinner that day was eaten in a dead silence.

“We’ll all sit in the living room and talk,” Rafael announced and no one argued with him, but no one also seem to be eager to talk.

“Remi, Milo, would you like to say something to Casey?”

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said what I said, I just got annoyed because the gun storage is a dangerous place and I was the one who forgot to lock it up. Something could’ve happened to you and it would be my fault. I wasn’t really angry at you but myself and it is your house” 4

“We’ve been acting like dicks for no reason. Rafael invited you here, you should feel free to explore the house if you want, as long as you live it you should feel like you’re at home”

I could see none of these words came to the boys easily. They were really struggling to finally put an end to the hostilities that started right after Casey and I arrived at their house.

“Why do you think I want apology from you? It was clear from the beginning you don’t like me, I don’t see how could this change only in a few hours”

“Since our sister died there was no girl in this house. And then you came and started living in her room and for some reason liking you would feel like betrayal to her” Milo explained.

“Besides, any sort of friendship with us would be dangerous because if someone finds out we care you will have a target on your back. This is why she died, it was our fault”

“But didn’t you said she died in an accident?” I directed my question at Rafael.

“I didn’t say what led to this accident. Sofia was 15 when she was kidnapped by people who wanted to harm our family. Nothing was going to happen to Sofia in their original plan, but the hijackers they hired were amateurs. Our sister managed to escape. She got in the car and drove away, while escaping she crashed against a truck, she died on impact “

I couldn’t get a word out. I guess Casey was speechless too, because her hands were clenched into fists and she looked like she was about to cry

“I’m very sorry”

“We are not telling you this because we want your condolences. We are telling you this because sometimes it will be difficult for us to be rational if you put yourself in unnecessary danger and we want to explain why we acted with hostility from the beginning. That’s not an excuse, but we want to change”

“I also apologize for the way I acted towards you,” 5

Wait, it was Casey who said that. I looked at her surprised, I think everyone did but she wasn’t looking at us. “I didn’t like the idea of Eliana moving out, us living here and the new school being picked up for me but the way I reacted was often childish. I shouldn’t have yell so much” 1

“Color me impressed Casey, I wasn’t expecting you to say that” Rafael pointed out. 22

“I still hate how you order everyone around tho” Casey responded to Rafael looking him straight in the eyes. Damn, she was brave. 2

“Nobody likes it” Remi said with amusement.

“I confirm” Milo added in almost-serious voice.

“Right, me too” I agreed with all of them. 42

We all waited for Rafael’s reaction, he looked at us with no expression to his face. 1

“If I started to say what I don’t like about you all, we wouldn’t get out of here until tomorrow,” he responded with… was that amusement? 55

“So Casey, will you forgive us? We want to change” 5

“We just act like idiots sometimes”

“Speak for yourself, I’m just mean” 10

“Okay, we both have character flaws”

“But we compensate with our great looks”

“And a sense of humor”

“I hate it when they do that” Casey said before they had the chance of continue. 1

“What we do what?” They simultaneously asked in confusion. 3

“When you finish each other sentence. It’s cursed, stop” 3

“I don’t like it either,” said Eliana, as if for real.

“And I,” Rafael added.

“They are not so bad”

“Who?”

“You know, them. Vincentis I mean” 2

“What?” I looked at Casey feeling shock. “But I thought you hate them”

“I mean they’re annoying but I can deal with them. Leaving this place is not a good idea considering what Harvey might do. Besides… you have a wedding already scheduled for next week”

Oh that’s right. My wedding is tomorrow.
