Episode 11

Ben scratched his head furiously.

How would he survive without her for five months

What had he gotten himself into?
“mind you, her chances of survival is at a very high risk, just hope and pray, she made it out alive.
She’d lost a lot of blood.

Just thank your stars, that she was brought in early or else, she would have been long dead.”
Doctor richard said. Putting ben into uneasyness.

The door creaked opened and a nurse walked in.
“Sir!, there’s an emergency in ward B, the patient there is gasping out of breath”
the nurse said with a tone of urgency.

Doctor richard ran out with her to the said ward, leaving Ben behind.

Ben stood, staring at Nancy, he felt sorry for himself.

He went down on his knees beside her, took her hand and kissed it.
“Nancy, please wake up, don’t leave me alone. I know i have wronged you, i know it was all my fault.

I put you in this terrible situation through my insanity of lust. Please i begged you, don’t leave me alone.

Ah God!. Forgive me”
tears fell freely from his eyes. He wished she could hear him.

How painful it was, to lose a loved one.

Deep down a broken heart, all the sadness one can bear is misery.

He just wished her quick recovery.

He kept on sneezing simulteneously as though he was suffering from catarrh.

He wiped off his face and stood up.

He peeked at her, it seems as though she was sleeping peacefully.

He walked out of the room and was off to Doctor richard’s office.

He met him, arranging some files
“well done Doc”
ben announced his presence.
“oh! Mr Benson”
doctor richard shoved his hands for him to sit while Doctor richard brought out a file and flipped the page opened, he handed it to ben.
Ben took it and signed.

He handed it back to him.
“i will take my leave now sir!”
ben said standing up.
“oh yes, you may go”
“thanks doc, i will come and check up on her tomorrow”
“no problem, you’re welcome”
they both shook hands and he left.

He was out in the parking lot. He entered his car and drove off.

He alighted from the car and went in.

He sat on the couch and started unbuttĂśning his shirt, his thought drifted to Nancy again.

Tears pricked down his eyes. He tøøk his handkerchief and wiped it off.

He sat there fumbling with the buttons.

His phone rang out loud, he brought it out and looked at the screen to check who the caller was.

It was his secretary.

He swiped the screen and picked it.
“hello”
faith said in the other end of the call.
“yeah, how you doing?”
he asked her
“i’m fine sir!, but sir, i called to know your whereabout sir, we have been searching thoroughly for you sir”
“oh!, yes, sorry about that, i was called that my wife had an accident, that was why i left.”
“your wife?, hope she’s okay?”
he took a deep breath feeling uneasy talking about her predicament.
“its very serious o, she is still unconscious”
“eeyah! Sorry sir!, i feel for you but Mr kelvin, said i should give you a letter”
his heart skipped on hearing mr kelvin. He hoped it wasn’t what he was thinking.
“mr kelvin?, what letter?, i mean what’s the content of the letter?”
“i don’t know yet, but he told me to deliver it to you untouched sir!”
“wait, was he aware of my absence?”
“yes, he was aware, he came looking for you minutes after you left”
“Oops!, did he asked you of my whereabout?”
“no, he didn’t, he just went back to his office, while, he called me, minutes later and gave me the letter to deliver it to you”
“okay then, i will come check it out tomorrow.”
“All right sir!, i will be expecting you then.”
“ok bye!”
he said and hung up the call.

What a bad day it was for him.
“first it was my wife, now my job is gone, everything happened just in a day?”
he thought loudly scratching his head as though he was suffering from rashes.

He paced up and down fidgeting on what to do.

An idea struck him.

He remembered, Times like this needs brain washer (Alcohol).

He remembered the day he lost his father, he’d almost gone insane, all thanks to the brain washer.

He termed it brain washer coz in times of hardship or when a problem weighs him down, he would resented into drinking, drinking away the sad memories.

He hadn’t drink since he married Nancy.

He was an habitual drinker before he met nancy. She helped him over come it and he’d promised her, he won’t drink again.

He kept to the promise until now, which he was about to break.

He manuevered his way to a mini-bar not far from his house.

He sat in a corner lonely.

Humming to the music being played.

The bar man came to him and he ordered for two bottles of beer.

In no time the beers were brought to him.

He opened it and poured it into a glass cup.

He took it to his mouth but was unable to drink it.

He remembered her warning not to ever drink again.

But a voice within, told him to drink it, afterall, he won’t drink again after this.

He gulped the whole contents in his mouth, he kept drinking till he exhausted the bottles.

He kept ordering for more.

He emptied five bottles which were brought to him.
