The news of Sadiq’s attempted murder on the Sultan had spread through this city of Marida like wildfire… Everyone was shocked and surprised by the boldness of Sadiq for trying to avenge his mother’s death…

While the poor boy was locked in the dungeons, The Council men of the palace try to persuade the Sultan to give him a death sentence as a punishment… His wives Saudat and Aisha also convince him to kill him so that he can serve as an example to those who try to pull a stunt like that.

But the Sultan ignores them all, and seeks the advice of his most loyal and trusted friend and servant.. Salim the sage.

Salim Are you sure he’s your son?

Mustapha I’m sure… He has the ruby, that I gave to his mother… Safina.

Salim Are you sure he’s not someone’s son?

I couldn’t believe I missed….. He was so close to me… Very close… That throw of mine wasn’t suppose to miss… But what surprised me was… Why did he stop the royal guards from ending me… Why would he try to spare me… And what’s even more surprising was, Why was he staring at my mom’s corpse… I could clearly remember the look on his face as he saw her… It was If he had seen a ghost… Could it be that he recognized her? But that wouldn’t change anything… My mother’s dead… She’s… Dead.

I didn’t know how long I was crying since they brought me into the dungeon… I was so heartbroken thinking about my mother’s corpse… Those bastards might have probably left her body out on the streets to rot or they’ve thrown her out into the desert.. Why? Why? Why would the gods choose to put me in the difficult situation especially my mom…

I knew I was going to die because not only did I kill a royal guard, I also attempted to kill the Sultan of Marida, and I doubt If they would allow me to see the light of the next day.

I didn’t know how long I was inside the dungeon, cause the place was so dark and lonely, there was no window for me to indicate whether it was afternoon evening or night… So after shedding some tears, I fell asleep…

I was later awoken by the guards who shoved and kicked me, they dragged me out of the dungeon and bounded me in chains.. I was then taken to the court room, where I was going to be judged for my actions… Immediately we got there, People were already waiting.. They were all booing and throwing stuff at me, calling me names as I was led in front of the judicial council and above them sat the Sultan, his wives and sons.

As soon as I got at the altar, Every one in the court room became silent and so the trial began.

Judicial council 1 You.. Scum of the streets… What is your name?

J- council 1 What is your name fool!?

Sadiq Sadiq… And I’m not a fool!

J-council I see you’ve got spunk and a mouth… But that won’t do you any good, filth.. I’m sure you know where you’re here.

Sadiq I do not…

J – council 2 You killed a royal guard and you attempted to kill the Sultan and why? Because of some SL*t?

Sadiq My mother is not a sl*t you dog, She was murdered by the Royal guard and he got what he deserved and as for the Sultan.. He’s the reason why my mother’s life is in misery.

J- council False accusation against the Sultan won’t change anything!

Sadiq This is no false accusation. Why don’t you ask the Sultan who the woman is?

Having saying that, Everyone turned to his direction… The Sultan stood up looking in my direction, He came down from his seat and walked towards me… As he approached me, I noticed my mom’s ruby in his hands… The guards must have removed it from my neck whilst we were struggling.

The Sultan came in front of me staring at me..

Mustapha Sadiq… Where did you get this ruby?

Sadiq My mother gave it to me as a gift.

Mustapha What’s her name?

Sadiq Why do you want to know?

Mustapha What’s her name boy?

Sadiq Safina!

Mustapha Safina? Does she have a husband? Is she married?

Sadiq No… She raised me alone..

Mustapha I see….. Has she told you about herself? Or how she gave birth to you?

Saudat Liar! Safina had no son… She must have made it up… If she was indeed with child, it certainly isn’t the Sultans.

Sadiq, I’m sorry about your mother and I wished there was something I could do to reverse her fate… But what’s done is done… I don’t know if you’ve noticed but you’re my son…

Abdul Your highness…. There’s no proof that backs up what this boy says… He’s nothing but a liar!

Mustapha Oh there is… This ruby is the proof… I gave it to his mother as a gift… No one else in this city has the type of jewelry except me.. And as you’ve heard, this boy had no father… Its all obvious.. This lad here is my son..

This trial is now over…. Case dismissed.

I couldn’t believe what just happened… Everything happened so fast… The Sultan’s decision had stunned everyone in the court.. Even the judicial council couldn’t do anything… After all the king word is law..

The Sultan ordered the chains to be unshackled from my wrists, he ordered some of his slaves to take me into the palace and look after me and to tend to my needs.

Despite the swift change of my life in an instant, I wasn’t too excited about it…. If only my mom was here to see her dream come true… All this time, she had believe this day would come even though I never believed it..

Preserving the ruby was the best decision she ever made.. Cause If she had sold it, none of this would have came through.
