AS TOLD BY WILLIAMS

I decided to stay over at the hospital, hoping to see Wally wake up and ask me what he was doing in the hospital but he never did. It was around 3am when the rest that were waiting together with me gave up and said they wanted to go home. They all left and I was left alone with Celine who insisted she will stay to know what becomes the outcome.
It was 5am when I woke up after dozing for some minutes and went to the unit were Wally was admitted. Nurses were clustered around him as I viewed through the window, struggling to save his life. I noticed Celine as she was running around,
giving instructions as if she was part of the hospital medical crew. I admired her guts and courage as she went about ensuring that Wally got well.

Jegede came around 6am and we were together until 6:45 when Celine came out. Me: Hey, what’s up?
Celine: We almost lost him.
Jegede: is he okay now?
Celine: Let’s hope he does… He almost suffered a brain tumor. That was what we were battling to prevent.
Me: That’s disastrous
Celine: The hit affected his head seriously. He might lose his memory if he happens to get well…

Me: Hmmm… But will he wake up?
Celine: He’s in coma now but we will keep a watch on him.
Jegede: We hope he gets better.
Me: But who could have done that?
Celine: I wanted to ask you that… That’s
wickedness… The greatest I have ever seen.
Tears were falling down her eyes and I hugged her.
Jegede: We weren’t able to notice who did it and it came with impulse
Celine: You mean no one noticed what happened?
Jegede: I think so
Me: Did you try asking the girls?
Jegede: Kosi won’t say anything and she was tipsy too
Me: Tricia?
Jegede: She couldn’t stop crying
Celine: Then who did?
Jegede: I dunno.
Celine excused us to go and freshen up while Jegede and I walked into the ward to check on Wally.

His handsome face was bright as usual, a smile curved at the end of his lips. He was still the same Wally we knew apart from the bandage that was bound on his head with blood stains on it. Blood was being transfused into him gradually and we felt like hitting him hard and telling him to come let’s go and refresh ourselves. But he wasn’t hearing us, he was faraway in a place where he can’t hear us…

No matter how loud we call his name. He body was still and we didn’t know if he was actually breathing or he was dead.

We stood there, transfixed for what seemed like eternity without saying anything. Our eyes were wet as we watched our friend in a critical condition.

Our cartel has been busted.

Jegede: Kosi won’t like to hear about him Me: What happened?
Jegede: I dunno but she wouldn’t come to the hospital with me and she packed her properties from Wally’s room. She left early this morning.
Me: I don’t understand
Jegede: She packed out
Me: Did she give any reason?
Jegede: She didn’t talk to me as she left.
Me: No problem
Celine joined us 20mins later and we left with the cars to a place we will take our breakfast.
Celine ordered for sandwich and coffee while Jegede and I ordered for ukwa and plantain.
Celine: I will be leaving for Florida tomorrow. So I won’t be staying around
Me: So soon?
Celine: What do you mean? I ve been here for over three weeks.
Jegede: So what will be Wally’s fate?
Me: You know you are our only hope now. Your influence have helped us in securing a bit of his life.
Celine: I understand
Me: What do we do now?
Celine: We do what we have to do.
Jegede: Something like?
Celine: you have to wait till he wakes up… If he doesn’t remember any, he will remember you guys
We looked at each other.
Jegede: is it that serious?
Celine: Very serious.
A mercedes S-class pulled up in the car park and Kosi and the guy from the previous night walked into where we were.
Celine: isn’t that Wally’s girlfriend???
