LINDA

In all my life, I’ve never been more terrified than I am right now… Here I was strapped to a chair and with a sharp blade on my throat… I was trembling all over, my loins were getting sweaty and I was scared right out of my skull… I closed my eyes waiting for Lily to carry out her evil deed.. In my mind, I just wanted this to be over with… If she wants to kill me, fine but she doesn’t..that’s fine as well, the worst part of this was waiting and I didn’t know how long I was closing my eyes..

Then suddenly, Lily let go of my hair and removed the blade from my neck.. She quickly brought out some kind of bottle with contained some whitish stuff and started drinking… I saw surprised when I saw this and I wondered what was happening but I kept my mouth shut.

After Lily was done drinking whatever she was putting inside her body.. She pulled a chair and sat opposite to me, facing me.. Then all of a sudden, she started laughing..

Lily (laughs) I’m sorry.. I’m really sorry, okay?

Linda What? What’s going on?

.

Lily Sorry for putting you under this pressure…

Lily Why are you apologizing? Weren’t you going to kill me?

.

Lily I was but then I couldn’t… I began to think about this whole thing…

.

Lily What are you talking about? Are you alright?

.

Lily Yes I am… What I don’t understand is.. Why would someone want to kill a nice person like you? The person that hired me sure has a grudge on you and I was hoping to see some selfless and pompous babe, not Mother Teresa…

.

I couldn’t believe what I just heard… An assassin with self conscience? In fact is she really an assassin in the first place?

Linda Why would you say that? I thought your job is to kill people not bother about them.

.

Lily You may find this hard to believe but I wasn’t always like this.. I was a innocent young girl once..but cruel circumstances made me what I am now… I’ll killed lots of people.. Lots of them, at first when I end their lives, I feel this thrill inside me like a gush of water but then after some time, i get disturbed with a wave of guilt and regret.. I sat myself down and thought.. What would I say to God when I die? Nothing. But despite all that there was something that kept me going.. I wasn’t going to stop killing until I get hold of three individuals who were the main reason why my life’s changed.

I felt anger and pain in Lily’s voice.. Whatever it is that was happened to her wasn’t good at all.. I felt sorry for her but She’s leading herself in a path of no return.. Revenge darkens the soul and it makes one lose their way which eventually leads to the demise.. So I tried as much as I could advise her.

Lily look, I don’t understand what happened to you.. But Revenge isn’t the way….

Lily Please hold it Mrs. Goody two shoes.. I’ve heard that preach already.. I’ve gone too deep into this to turn back now.. I’m going to see this through till the end. Now… About you.. I’ve seen what you’ve been doing,.. Helping the orphanage home and also helping in community service.. That’s pretty good.. and also you were nice to me, a stranger whom you’ve just met and because of this.. I’m going to let you go. People like you don’t deserve cruel fates such as this… But let me warn you.. You try telling the police… Your next bus stop will be the Afterlife.. Understand?

Lily Sure.. But if you don’t mind me asking why are you bothered with the things I do?

Linda this may sound weird but you remind me of one lady that brought me up when I was at the orphanage .. Her name is Halima, she’s like a mother to me.. You’re the second nicest person I’ve met after her…. Okay then you can go now.. And don’t forget what I said about the police.

Linda Okay… Uhm.. Can you cut me loose?

Lily Hmm, I’m having second thoughts about this… Sorry I’m going to have to knock you out once more… Can’t risk letting you know where this is.

Lily again covered my nose with the strong smelly substance before long I was back to where I started…

A bit later, I was awoken by Regina, who had a panicked look on her face, I sat up and found my self at the front of her place…I was surprised, really surprised, just how did I get here? The last thing I remembered was I was in a dark room with Lily and she was about to..

I quickly held my neck and rushed into Regina’s room, She was surprised by my swift sudden movement, so she followed me to see what was going on.. As I got into her room, I stood in front of her mirror and observed my neck to see if there was any cut or slash.. I breathed a sigh of relief when I was my neck was okay. Regina who was behind me confused, began throwing questions at me.

Regina This girl.. Where you dey since? I’ve been calling your number! What’s going on? Do you know what time it is.. 11:30.

.

Linda I know, I know… Sorry… It’s just that something weird happened to me.

Regina Ehn? What is it? Lay it on me.

Linda Its going to sound crazy but I was kidnapped by an assassin!

Regina bursted out laughing so hard, she fell on the ground clutching her stomach.. I was shocked.. What did I say that was so funny?

Regina Kidnap you? Assassin and you’re still alive? Abeg comot Jor.

Linda I’m serious… Can’t you see my hands? This are knot marks… And touch my clothes and see.. I’m soaked.

Regina Look… Being kidnapped is no small talk.. Are you sure?

Linda Look… I know what I’m saying and my head is normal.. The lady that kidnapped me used some kind chemical to knock me out..

Regina Wait did you say lady?

Linda Yes..

Regina So what’s her reason for kidnapping you?

Linda she was hired to kill me and Andy.

Regina turned towards me looking at me in a shocked manner!

Regina Kill? Who hired her?

.

Linda She won’t say.. But she let me go.

Regina Why?

Linda This may sound weird but she said I reminded her of some lady that brought her up when she was in the orphanage.

Regina Are you sure you were kidnapped by an assassin?

Linda That’s what I’m still thinking about?

Regina So what now?

Linda By tomorrow God willing, I’m going to bring Andy home… He won’t stay in that hospital no longer..

Regina Smart move.. We should let the police know what’s going on.

Linda No please don’t bring the police into this.

Regina We have to.. Besides can you think of some who would try to kill you?

Linda I do have one person in mind,.. Tony.

Regina Tony? No way it can’t be..

Linda Why? I’m sure he’s still boiling with rage after what happened between us.

Regina Look, I’m telling you he would never do that… Guess who called me today?

Linda Who?

Regina Tony! and guess what? He said he wants to talk to you.

Linda Talk? Really? Well, that’s not going to happen.

Regina Why?

Linda Regina, you know why! After all he’s said, did he really think that he would sweet mouth his way again back to me.. Hell no… Let me find someone else.. He and I are past tense.

Regina Girl.. You dey craze.. The man wants to talk to you.. Maybe he wants to apologize.. And you know fix things up.

Linda Fix things up? With who? Look Regina if you have nothing better to say.. Abeg keep quiet.. I’m tired and I need to sleep.

Regina See this girl o.. Anyways its your palava not mine.

Regina left the room after that… I still couldn’t believe that Tony himself wanted to talk to me.. Well if he thinks he’s going to make his way to me.. He must be crazy.
