Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 17

COORDINATOR : It was one of the most impressive duels I’ve ever seen, not in awhile are we going to see something as intriguing and interesting as this… We had 3 rounds … Word definition, Vocabulary jam and Spelling bee and I most confess the contestants were amazing in their own stead — but a winner must emerge and as well a loser too….well before that, let’s hear a short speech from our special guest.

with a standing ovation let’s make welcome to the podium our dear esteemed Governor of this blessed state..

Governor walks up to the stage with his security aid and his special assistant by his side, the whole field was filled with shouts and screams as the audience, parents, guests of honor and all stood on their feet and applauded him…

GOVERNOR : [speaking into the mic} [clears his throat] I want to first and foremost greet each and every one who made out time from your very busy schedule to grace this occasion and showcase your support firsthand for this lads; I want to thank the owners of this school, Mr. Popov and as well the owner of PRINCESS COLLEGE– Mrs. Douglas for your continuous involvement in developing hidden talents and rare gems within this society …

[Turns to the students] When I first walked into this state I heard my Father say Rivers state is the treasure base on the nation, I dint understand that until today; looking at you guys I am rest assured our state is in good hands in the future and we are raising gallant soldiers in the different spheres of life who will support us and take their various competitors to their heels.. [Cheers erupted into the skies]

the GOVERNOR continues : Mister Steve, you’re an elegant fellow; not only did you marvel us as a newbie in this competition but you evoked great respect from us the moment you gave points not only to the opposing school but to your foe — I must confess you’re one rare gem… you were the highlight today, keep it up..

As a token of support, I’ll be gifting the winning School a sum of #10,000,000.00 and other incentives, and also I’ll award the owner of the winning school a tour round the globe with me next year…

[applause]

he steps down ….

COORDINATOR : Okay, let’s get back to business and I can see some people sweating in their brows and foreheads … I won’t want to give you high blood pressure from suspense ..so I’ll make the announcement now..

The Home side amassed a total of 53 points from the word definition and vocabulary jam and the away side came out with 38 points ..

the final battle — spelling bee as a rule that 20 points will only be awarded to the school of the last contestant standing and as such the away side is awarded with 20 points bringing their tally to 58..

So, the winner of this year’s Grammar competition is : PRINCESS COLLEGE for a fifth straight time

(the students of PRINCESS COLLEGE jumped, danced and yelled — it was a jubilant dance of true winners; Steve really put them on their edges today and he was a person they wouldn’t want to meet again..)

COORDINATOR : Okay, let’s calm ourselves .. The contestant of the year is ( opening the piece of a paper in his hands ) well– its a tie , Both Rebecca and Steve amassed 9 answered questions each, so how to settle it will be the traditional way, one of them will have to forfeit and crown the other winner..

Rebecca looked at Steve and smiled, Steve returned the gesture .. He felt relieved after he had some talks with Miss Hilda and Uncle Joe ..

STEVE’S POV :
after I had finished explaining everything to Miss Hilda and Uncle Joe, Miss Hilda hugged me and kissed me fully on the lips taking me and Uncle Joe aback lots of kisses today –omo I’m Solomon o — she was proud I could do that so was Uncle Joe and I felt relieved …

I was reeled out of my thoughts when I saw Rebecca walk up to the microphone..

REBECCA : Good day everyone, standing on existing protocols.. I am Rebecca Solomon, a student of PRINCESS COLLEGE and I must confess I have seen a person like Steve — so calm, so charming, so alluring, so commanding, so fulfilled, so inspiring —( the crowd began to cheer her on ..)

BOY 1 : wisdom

GIRL 2 : My sister, I’m drooling o !!!!!

GIRL 3 : I go love o !!!

REBECCA : He’s a rare gem indeed and I am forfeiting for him to be contestant of the year …

[everyone was on their feet, some parents were crying, loud cheers from students was heard in the air, the senators were giving an endless clap ]

COORDINATOR : what a competition ? I am blessed to be here today .. Steve is the Officially the contestant of this year GRAMMAR COMPETITION 6TH EDITION … Let’s congratulate him.. what do you have to say

STEVE POV :

I walked up to the mic and for the first time I held the whole school field in my eyes, I turned and looked at the face of the Governor full of smiles, Mrs Douglas was in tears, Miss Hilda and Uncle Joe were in tears too and full of smiles– I saw Uncle Dan smile like a proud father who just saw his son crowned king, Nelly was in tears, Nife and Tola were jumping and screaming my name, Dean and Sammy were presenting their thumbs in the air for me to see and as I was about beginning I caught sight of Michelle — she looked happy, in smiles and was cheering at me — she really looked vulnerable then but she was fulfilled and happy…

when one door closes , another opens — Here i am, a kid who suffered one of the worst heartbreak, rejected from the school football team and ejected from the soccer tournament, suspended from school being crowned today as the best contestants– I was so happy, I felt the world at my feet and I wished my parents were here..

STEVE : I am pleased to be here behind awe-inspiring personalities, men and women from diverse facets of life who have undoubtedly laid a solid foundation for the future ones; I can’t begin to recount the sleepless nights before today that was filled with reading, surfing the net, doing comprehensive researches on alot of things… I want to commend the almighty God for today, to my mentor – Uncle Joe, you’re the man, to my English teacher – Miss Hilda, you’re a talent , to my Uncle – Uncle Dan I bow in respect to you (bows), to my friends – I am more than blessed to have you as companions , to the owner of this great school – Mr. Popov, thank you sir … to all my fellow contestants – I want to say I’m no better than you and I was blessed to have compete with me, it has sharpened my intellect and equipped me better for the future …

finally, to my viewers out there – I want to say : Life is like the game of Chess, even if you keep losing, you’ll always discover you have gained something new, something vital, something special — I want to say keep your dreams as high as you can and set your visions even higher, You’ve got a tomorrow ahead of you, a tomorrow that will be designed by you and a tomorrow that starts NOW .. Thank you

COORDINATOR : Woah, what a speech ? I must say I am blessed once again.. Thank you, Steve

I was worn a gold medal like the one those athletes in Olympics wear … I was also given a carved image – a man holding a pair of books and looked so much like a scholar…i made a bow again and again — I walked out

Michelle walked up to me immediately I was down ..

MICHELLE : Hey congrats

STEVE : whatsup Friend ?

MICHELLE : Because I congratulated, doesn’t make us friends and doesn’t settle the bad blood between us

STEVE : well, I sure hold nothing against you but as for friends; one day we will be (walks out)

MICHELLE speaking inwardly : so confident of himself (smiles) why am I smiling ? not again, I felt those butterflies in my stomach and I couldn’t stop myself from smiling … (groans) I need to get checked out ..

MR. POPOV : so insolent, how could that boy ? made me lose face before all my guests and see the way Mrs. Douglas was grinning earlier [scatters the books on his table]

STANLEY : I know what to do, Dad .. just leave it to me — I’ll make him pay

MR. POPOV : whatever must be done, must be done quickly ..

STANLEY 🙁 picks his phone ) Hello, is it ready ?

RECEIVER : Yes …

STANLEY : Good, drop it off in her office as planned — she will be the perfect candidate to carry the job out

RECEIVER : But sir, won’t she suspect the contents has been changed ?

STANLEY : Don’t worry about that, she’s blinded by jealousy and hatred to know the contents has been changed

RECEIVER : Okay , just await my confirmation

STANLEY : (hangs up ) Its done that … now I just need to stir up some feud within them … (laughs)

MR. POPOV : You’re a real son of your father …
