Adams POV:

Today’s school day, done and dusted. Leaving the staffroom, I received a message.

” Adam, stop ignoring me. Pick my calls will you. Where the hell are you?”

I deleted the message instantly, my heart heavy with the same guilt I’ve been trying to purge since I flew back home.

Another message popped up again and I glared at it. It was an unknown number. I clicked on it and read:

Sorry I didn’t come to school today. I’m down with a headache. My parents went on a long trip starting today. I’m feeling a little better now. Can we start lessons today? Where would it be convenient for you? My house or yours?

Your student, Katelyn.

I stared at the message, knowing that I would have to begin my new job today. Katelyn’s mom didn’t waste time with the payment arrangement. She gave me an advance to begin today. When I woke up this morning, I received an alert of #35,000. No one would be at the house, especially her mean old husband.

I didn’t want to do this but I had to. I can’t start a journey and back out just now. I had to finish this and get it over with. Besides, the money is good.

Typing back at her, I sent her a message. I read it one more time. I had sent, ” I’m on my way to your house. Be ready.”
