Episode 31

The Doctor told me I lost the baby. I could not look at Daniels, his face was so sad he cried.
“I was so happy and excited about being a father but I guess it’s not our time yet” I overhead him telling his mother when she came to see us.

“I know my son, that’s the way to go, trust God will grant you other children” his mother had comforted him as I listened in from the kitchen door.
Well, years went by and it was evident I was not going to give him any seed. Feli cautioned me to never tell Daniels I was pregnant. She always took our baby every time the pregnancy was 4 months and some weeks. According to Daniels, I never got pregnant again.

“Hey love! Am going to pick up Chalwe from the station now, are you coming with me?” Daniels shouted snapping me from my memory.

“No my love remember I got to go to that church meeting today” I sighed standing up and walking towards the bedroom Daniels was.

“Oh yeah! I forgot about that. Am proud of you my wife, always committed to doing God`s work, the more reason I trust our God will one day answer our prayers and give us kids” he smiled wrapping his arms around me.

I looked away ashamed. “Sure we need to have faith right?” I smiled looking back at him.

‘Yea sure, there is nothing impossible with God. Now let me go before this boy gets tired of waiting” he sighed kissing me before grabbing his car keys.
I watched him walk away. Later on, I was locked up in the spare room talking to Feli.
“I don’t like the feel I have over the visitor coming to this house” she winced
“There is nothing I can do about it, if I continue rejecting staying with people in this house, Daniels will not like it. So far I have refused to stay with some sisters of his. Hm, I have no way of denying this one especially that Daniels says he will be going to the university and couldn’t find a room, it’s just for this semester am sure next we will secure a room for him” I explained but Feli was not herself. I noticed she seemed uncomfortable and whatever she was feeling I too was feeling it.

There was something about the boy who was coming to my house and I hated it. To confirm my fears, I looked at him the moment Daniels announced their arrival.
“How are you sister in law?” he had shaken my hand and I saw him look up at me sharply.

He whispered something to himself that I couldn’t hear and I immediately walked away.

“I told you so!” Feli yelled at me the moment I run into the room she was.
“What am I going to do now?” I asked panicking.
“Don’t worry I will have him out of this place soon enough” she assured me and I shivered. Something about Chalwe gave me strong dangerous vibes and I could not bare to look at his face. Every time I tried to, I could see some kind of flames of fire surrounding his face.

Chalwe`s POV
I cleared my throat standing next to my cousin as he washed his car outside.
“Hey young man how was school today?” he asked me with his usual smile.
Daniels and I where close since we were kids though he was 4 years older than me. He inspired me a lot in many things. I remember when I first visited my aunty his mother year’s back, he introduced me to the charismatic prayer group and since then I was a staunch member.
However, since I got to his house I noticed he was no longer the prayerful man I used to know. What puzzled me was his wife. The first time I saw her my heart leaped. I looked at her and saw two faces, even though the other one was hiding on her back, my instincts told me something was deeply wrong in that house. I could not sleep well that night as I kept dreaming of a very dark place within the house.

Waking up to pray, my sister in law walked into my room and asked me to tone down as I was disturbing her sleep. From that day it had been one battle night to another. Even though I could not point a finger on what it was about my sister in law, I surely was aware of the dark presence surrounding her. She always avoided me. We barely talked to each other and every time we deed she never looked straight at my face.

Here I was a month later trying to open up to Daniels, I felt it in my spirit he needed to be aware. The spirit within me was not at ease seeing him living in darkness.
“Are you going to keep standing there or you will tell me what you called me for?” he asked wiping the windscreen to his car.
“Oh yeah, I wanted to ask you to join me for a prayer group meeting this weekend. I notice you have not been going there since I came.” I smiled trying to sound as casual as possible.

He let a laugh and walked towards me.
“I love that you have become prayerful Chalwe, however, I don’t feel the need to go for the prayer group these days, you see my wife and I have always been going to the Sunday service and am sure you have noticed the way she prays, she most of the time locks herself in the spare bedroom to pray and is always doing some work at church” he explained patting my shoulder.
“I know that for sure, but am still of the view you went back to being that prayerful man I knew before. “ I smiled praying in my heart he agrees. He however excused himself and said he will join me next time.
From that moment I knew I needed to get myself in God`s fire. I declared a fast for days and planned to spend my time in prayer till God showed me the darkness I kept seeing around the house..
