Episode 17

Niphemi listened with optimum attention as his fiancee told him about the story she heard of her mum because she was too young to witness or read meaning to it then. She told him of how she thinks her father was at fault for chasing his mother out before her dad told her the truth. Her mum was having an affair with their driver, her dad caught her, warned her yet she persisted.

Her dad travelled for three days but have to cut it short because of some unavoidable circumstances, he had to come back home a day earlier but alas! He met his driver driving his wife not his car….on his matrimonial bed. That broke the camel’s back and he chased her out.

Niphemi was so aggrieved and felt so shocked a woman will stoop so low to drag a driver to her matrimonial bed, he kept quiet but listened as his fiancee continued to speak of all the taunts she endured in her school from friends about her promiscuous mother, the mother affection she missed, the loneliness she felt at home when her dad goes on his trip…

he listened as she rumbled on, he felt so much for her and hugged her telling her all will be alright.

“Have you told your dad?” he asked

“Not yet” she replied, “you are the first person I called”

“Call him and let him know, okay?” he said, he doesn’t like that man an inch, but he feels that’s the best thing to do, her dad deserves to know.

…… … ……… ………….. “Congratulations” the doctor said smiling broadly as he stretched his right hand for an handshake “yhu are two months pregnant”

Anita was stunned, she had come to the doctor for diagnosis and possibly medication for the fatigue and nausea she felt throughout the week. She couldn’t believe her ears, she was pregnant from an incredulous relationship. She had hoped to have a change of life but this pregnancy again…..

She had been on pills ever since she left her husband house deciding not to mother a child again, after too much use of the pills, she was told she couldn’t mother a child again because her womb as been affected. That gave her the liberty she wants to pursue life’s vanity to the fullest. Trying to hide her shock, she accepted the doctor’s hand, forced a smile and walked out.

Niphemi got to work the following day, deciding to make use of his friend advice, he left his office, greeted his MD’s secretary

“she is not around, she’s sick” the secretary said making him stop in his tracks, he looked at her quizzically, turned and left for his office.

On his way, he met his fiancee

“Have you told dad now” he asked.

“Not yet, I was thinking I better tell him to his face than on phone”

“I think that will be better” he said

“Yes, I’ll go and see him after work today” she said.

“okay dear, hope you are now okay?” he said touching her cheeks sensuously.

“yes love, I’m better. I was coming to your office to clarify the account of that contractor, I’ve not yet seen her, she ought to hve come yesterday, maybe she’ll come today sha” she said with finality. She peck him and left for her office.

Niphemi stood rooted to the spot.
