Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 14

I heard that you settled down,

That you found a girl,

And you are married now,

I heard that your dreams came true,

Guess she gave you things I didn’t give to you

Old friend, why are you so shy?

Ain’t like you to hold to hold back or hide from the light

I hate to turn out of the blues uninvited but i

Couldn’t stay away, couldn’t fight it,

I’d hoped you would see my face and

That you’d be reminded that for me it isn’t over yet.

It displeasured me so much that Uri had changed with such a mileage. I was hurt, disappointed but there was something I was not

. I was not ready for a divorce. Every day I went over all the facts I had and I wondered was it stupid that I still wanted my Uri back. I cringed when I thought about the so many unworthy moments we had shared the last few weeks. Moments I had wondered if the person I knew was a lie. That loving, endearing and deserving husband. I was deeply hurt. I had known hurt before. My daughter died but this felt different. It had its own special way of making me feel like crap. I didn’t want to leave if there was still a marriage to salvage at the same time I did not want to stay and regret for the rest of my life. Besides he had made no attempt to seek me out.

“You know for someone who says you trusting in God for the outcome you worry a lot.” Charity said.

“I can’t help it.”

She had finally decided to go to the Church

. For some reasons unknown to me she kept postponing the visit. We reached the Church and I packed my car next to the pastor’s saloon car.

“His car is packed here, he must be in.” I said.

“He better be.”

We alighted from the car and went on inside the Church.

Grace was humming on the front pew. She spent most of her time here in church. I don’t remember in the last couple of weeks her not being in the church. We approached her.

“Morning Grace.” I said smiling at her.

“Good morning my child.”

“This is Charity my house guest, she would like to see the pastor. Is he around? I saw his car parked outside.”

“Hello Charity.”

“Hello.”

“The pastor is in… oh see here he comes.”

I noticed Charity clutching her purse much tighter.

“Are you okay?”

“Yes, yes am fine.” She said.

I turned my gaze back to the pastor.

“Pastor Thomas, someone is here to see you.” Grace said standing up.

Charity stepped forward and I could see the shocked look on his face.

“Thomas.”

“Charity what are you doing here?”

Both Grace and I held confused expressions.

“You guys know each other…of course you do otherwise you wouldn’t be here.”

Charity turned and looked at me.

“Ella this is Thomas, my ex-husband.”

“We will give you some space to talk.”

Thomas nodded gratefully.

“No, I want you to hear this.” Charity said with certainty.

“Charity what are you doing?”

“Grace and Ella please stay, be my witnesses.”

We stood rooted unable to move from all the drama. The shock was too much. I also had tones of questions.

“I am not here to argue or blame you or have a conversation. We have a great share of those in the past.”

A brief silence followed.

“Charity I ..”

Charity raised her hand.

“I just want to say I am sorry for everything wrong I did and said before and also that I forgive you for what you have done.”

She smiled at him.

“Let’s go.”

We left the church our steps echoing against the church floor. I wanted to look back but I couldn’t. There was a tight atmosphere looming around.

“That was quite heavy.” I said once we got outside.

“Had to be done.”

“I guess now I will take you back home.”

“No, now you take me to the station.”

“What! I mean you are leaving already? … I don’t understand.”

“There is no need to stay here, I have completed my mission.”

I looked at her. I had gotten used to having someone around. It was nothing compared to having Uri around but it still felt good.

“I wish you could have told me upfront.”

“Am sorry.”

“We will still have to go pick your things.”

“I have everything inside the car. I placed it there when you were not paying attention.”

“Where are you going?”

“To my sister’s”

“Where?”

“Utawala.”

“I am taking you there.”

“Just drop me at the stage, I will be fine.”

“I insist.”

We drove in silence for a while. I kept replaying the scene that had just occurred at the church.

. In my mind I had pictured pastors like perfect people. One who would not be ensnared with such a thing as Charity had described. I knew Pastor Thomas and his beautiful family. He had really helped me a few weeks ago when I had started reading my bible. There was no doubt in my mind that he must have changed from the person he was when he married Charity.

“When were you going to tell me?”

“Never am afraid, my business here was not related in any way to you.”

I shook my head.

“I am sorry for what you went through.”

“Thanks am fine now.”

We drove into town and I made a stop at a mall.

Thirty minutes later my car was parked at the entrance of the apartment her sister stayed in. My fingers lightly tapped on the steering wheel.

“Are you going to be okay?” I asked her.

“Yeah, are you?”

“Yeah.”

“You are like a daughter to me and I have got a feeling that whatever is going on will clear in due time just hang in there.”

I didn’t say a thing.

“I should go now.”

I unlocked the doors that were on automatic lock.

“Before you leave here is something.”

“I can’t take that Ella, you have already shown me kindness beyond.”

“If you really lost your home and job, you will need a start. You talked about partnering with your sister in her saloon business. This is going to get you on even ground with her.”

“No, Ella I can’t take this.”

“It’s nothing Charity, take it.”

“I will give it back I promise.”

“No. Just make sure one day you show the same kindness to another.”

“God bless you.”

She got out of the car. A woman who looked slightly younger than her and no doubt her sister appeared at the entrance. She waved at me and took her sister’s bag.

I was going to miss Charity.
