Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 20

“Someone please tell me this gets better.”

I sighed and headed for my chair which I collapsed in and immediately laid my head on the desk. I had two clients before lunch and it felt like I had hundreds of them

. I wanted to sob my heart out but I risked ruining my make-up. I had to put myself together. I lifted my head up only to be met by a pair of ocean blue eyes staring intently at me from the couch I normally had my patients.

I stood up from my chair dumb founded.

“It doesn’t get better.”

“Excuse me?”

“It doesn’t get better, you get better at dealing with it and gradually you will feel like yourself again.” He said to me.

“Austin. What are you doing here?” I asked when I finally found my voice.

“Morning to you too Ella.”

I smiled and blushed.

“Are you okay?”

“Yeah am fine.”

“You did not look fine some minutes ago.”

“I said am fine.

He bit his lower lip making his cleft chin more prominent.

“Okay.”

“So what are you doing here?” I asked once again.

“Yesterday we came at 10.00 am like you said and you were not in.”

“Oh.”

I had completely forgotten about it after yesterday’s incident at the hospital. I ran my thumb and middle finger on both my cheeks coming to rest both at the tip of my chin to hide my embarrassment.

“Oh, I am so sorry about that, I had a medical emergency.”

“Are you okay?”

“I wasn’t yesterday but now am fine.”

He stared at me.

“Maybe we should sit and talk? He said pointing at the chair that I normally sat on when having sessions with my patients

. I did not like the way he controlled the conversations. Nevertheless, I walked towards my seat and faking calmness sat down on it.

“What is the problem Ella?”

I stared at him in silence and slightly twitched the edge of my lips. Breathing out I leaned back on my chair and sighed loudly.

“I am the psychiatrist not you.” I said calmly.

He remained unmoved and stared even more intensely, his fingers crossed on top of one another. Calm, still waiting.

I didn’t care how blue his eyes got, I wasn’t budging from my stand. Looks have always been deceiving. If it was a stare down I better win.

I stared at him hard. After thirty seconds of the contest I crossed my arms against my chest.

“Am not falling for your trap Austin.”

“I don’t remember setting any.”

He looked aside.

“I can’t talk to you about my problems.”

“I respect that, no pressure.”

Though I did not want to share what I was going through with a stranger I felt a little disappointed when he did not press harder.

“Here is some water, it will help to keep yourself hydrated and calm down.”

I hadn’t realized I had zoned out. I took the glass gratefully and gulped down its contents.

“Thanks. Am sorry I did not see your son yesterday but I could fix him Friday afternoon.”

“That would be great.”

“Have him here.”

“No medical emergencies on Friday?”

“No medical emergencies, I promise.”

“I have my next patient coming in in the next ten minutes, I should be ready for him.” I said while standing up. Austin rose too. We started walking towards the door and I held the door for him.

“Thanks for coming in.”

“The pleasure is all mine Ella, Blessed day.”

I stared at his back. He was slightly taller than Uri, and had slightly broader shoulders. His hair was blonde but cut short and styled. He was wearing a white Adidas t-shirt and black jeans and blue sandals. He looked like he was in late thirties though I could not really tell. The scent of his cologne lingered in the room as he went away. I closed the door.

Damn it Ella, you are comparing.

I leaned at my door again but this time it was cut short by a rap. My 10.00 O’clock was here. I opened the door and let my brother in.

“Who is that handsome stranger I met coming from your office.”

“Nobody.”

“Now am curious, are you dating already and where did you get a white one Ella?”

“If you must know he is the father of my newest client. He is married Uriel and am still married at least until the divorce is finalized.”

When I mentioned the divorce his happy face quickly disappeared and his demeanor changed to a much sadder shade.

“Please smile, your demeanor is dropping my spirit.”

“How are you doing?” He asked worry written all over his face

“This is your session please sit down and let us begin.”

I resumed my chair and Jimmy laid on the couch.

“So how have you been doing at work?”

“Am fine Ella.”

“When was the last time you slept?”

“My shift ended at twelve, midnight. I woke up an hour ago.”

“9 hours of sleep.” Impressive.

“But Calvin said you still picking up extra shifts which is not good for your health. I can’t risk you collapsing at work once again.”

“Am fine I can handle the shifts, am only here because I need you to clear me.”

“You are a workaholic Jimmy and you push yourself too hard.

. I am here to ensure you maintain the balance. When was the last time you went for a date? Let’s not forget you haven’t come in for the past three sessions. You only have a session twice a week and you missed not only one but three.”

“This is ridiculous.” Jimmy said rising from his couch.

“Jimmy…”

“I missed the sessions because I was afraid to come and face you after the divorce and today am only here because I want to see you. Felicity told me what happened at the hospital.”

“Jimmy you don’t have to worry about me I am fine.”

“No you are not.”

“You are stressed and pregnant. Your health and the baby’s is at risk. I want you to let me take care of you.”

“You don’t have to take care of me.”

He exhaled in frustration.

“Mum is already here, I let her into your house before coming.”

“Jimmy why would you bring mum into this mess?”

“I told her about the divorce four days after Uri told me and now that your pregnant, we will take care of you whether you allow us or not.”

I stayed silent. It was stupid to think that my parents would stay blind-sided on this matter.

“Did I mess bad Jimmy?”

“Honestly, you treated my boy bad after Abigael died but him going out of his way to impregnate Joyce was a punch i never saw coming.”

“I love Uri.”

“I know.”

“I don’t want to raise a child without his father, divorce is also not the best solution.”

“Do you think he loves me?”

“I think so.”

“Why isn’t he trying to fight for this. Why is he running to her?”

“I wish I could answer those questions but I can’t.”

I stood from the chair and stared down from my office window. On the parking lot Austin stood and a blonde white woman was walking towards him. When she finally reached him they embraced and he kissed him on the forehead before he opened the door for her to enter into the car. A pit formed on my stomach and I walked back to Jimmy who was standing too and he engulfed me in a hug.

“Handsome stranger?”

“Why is everything good taken?”

He remained silent and let me sob on his shoulder.

“Thanks for telling mum, I really need her here.”

“I always got you covered baby girl.”
