Episode 27

For the past 9months I hadn’t heard from this woman and the number of times I tried to contact her, her number wasn’t connecting.

“So she had my number all these while and never called me,” I wondered.

“Dear I lost my phone,” she apologised. “Have been using my second sim till I decided to reactivate this one and retrieve my contacts from the backup,” she explained.

Whether her story was true or not I didn’t know.

“No problem,” I replied. “I understand,” I added.

“Can we see any of these days?” She asked.

“When in particular?” I asked to be sure.

“Let’s say on saturday,” she replied.

“Ok no problem,” I said.

“Till then dear,” she replied and hung up.

It was when she hung up that it crossed my mind that I didn’t ask her of the venue but I wasn’t bothered because I knew she would call me before the day or on the day itself.

Wherever the venue was wasn’t going to be a problem as I had a military vehicle attached to my name.

The woman wasn’t aware that I had joined the military and I didn’t tell her either.

The saturday soon came and I drove out in complete army uniform with an army vehicle.

She had earlier called me and suggested that we meet in one fast food restaurant located somewhere within the metropolis.

She was already there when I arrived and as soon as I stepped into the restaurant with my full military gear, her jaw dropped as she promptly recognised me.

“Jesus lord!” She exclaimed. “Onose is this you?” She asked. “When did you join the army? You didn’t even tell me?” She continued looking very surprised.

“My dear I’ve been very busy o,” I replied. “You know how demanding military work is,” I added.

She bought fried rice and chicken with some alcoholic wine for the both of us and we ate and gisted from one story to the other.

After that, I thanked her profusely as she escorted me to my army vehicle and stared on with surprise as I drove off.

From that day onwards, this woman started calling me everyday; day and night, telling me of how much she admired me, of how much she missed me and of how ready she was to do anything for me. She begged me day after day of how she wanted us to spend time together.

I informed her of how busy my schedule was and of how limited the time I had to spare was but she replied that she understood and even promised to pay for every second I spend with her without any grudges.

Without wasting time, she informed me that she would be waiting for me at Filban hotel, the coming saturday and that I shouldn’t disappoint her as she was going to pay me very well for my time.

I finally agreed and patiently waited for the saturday to arrive…
