Episode 9
The police didn’t inform the poor woman right away that her daughter was dead. They rather invited her to the station near the vicinity of the morgue.
“Hope everything is alright?” The poor woman kept asking on the phone.
“Madam please get to the station first,” was the reply the officer gave to her.
Mrs Theresa Obianodo got to the station two hours later after a very long wait by me and the officers.
We awaited her coming like the coming of Jesus Christ until two hours later when she eventually arrived.
The woman was fair in complexion and looked very robust and clean.
Anxiety was written all over her face and as soon as she climbed down from her Sequire jeep, she made her way into the police station.
“Please what has my daughter done?” was the first question she asked as soon as she got to the counter.
“Calm down madam,” the officer replied. “Our DPO is waiting inside to fill you in with the details.”
The tensed woman hurriedly followed the officer into the DPO’s office.
Then he took a salute and left the office leaving Ijeoma’s mum alone with the DPO.
“Please sit down madam,” the DPO said motioning her to get seated. Mrs Theresa obliged and sat down.
“Please what exactly is the problem?” Mrs Theresa asked as soon as she had sat down.
“I’m afraid there has been an accident involving your daughter,” the DPO informed.
“What?” Mrs Theresa shouted springing to her feet. “How? When? Where?” She asked obviously bewildered.
“Calm down madam,” the DPO persuaded.
“Please don’t ask me to calm down,” Mrs Theresa snapped back. “Just tell me what the hell happened to my daughter!”
“We are sorry but your daughter was involved in a ghastly motor accident,” the DPO informed. “Her body is at Tolibade specialist hospital as I speak with you.”
The harsh information stunned Ijeoma’s mum for some seconds before she screamed out in a very loud voice of emotional pain. The loudness of her scream shook the entire police vicinity and had few high ranked officers troop into the DPO’s office to know what was happening.
“My daughter never told me she was travelling,” Mrs Theresa sobbed. “Oh God I’m dead.” She lamented.
The police officers had a hard time consoling her and bringing her together.
“Please where did you say my daughter travelled to?” Ijeoma’s mum asked when she had gotten hold of herself.
“She had gone to see her boyfriend and was journeying back to school when the ghastly accident occurred,” the DPO explained.
“And who is that so called boyfriend?” Mrs Theresa inquired and that was how I came into the picture…
