Temptation

Episode 37

Ben was indecisive as he stood, fidgeting on what to do.

What if he should go after them, and came back to see nancy finally dead, what would he gain?

Definately, he would be the loser.
He dithered over it and quickly arrived to a conclusion.

He ran back inside the house, panting as he ran.

He was more scared as he saw her lay motionless, hardly breathing.
Was she dead?

Or
was it his imagination?.
His heart started beating faster than normal at the thought.

It must rather be his imagination.
He concluded in his mind.
He bent down to feel her pulse, putting his ear to her chest region.
It made no rythmic move in his ear, it was just still like a stagnant water.
He rose up and hauled her in his hand, and he quickly went over to his car.
He opened the backseat door and la!d her on the seat.

He opened the driver’s door and sat in, he immediately poured life into the vehicle and dashed out of the compound.
He drove at a very high speed rate that even fast & furious wouldn’t be able to outrun him.

He arrived in Royal hospital in a jiffy.
He parked the car and quickly dragged her out.

Some nurse brought out a stretcher and la!d her on it.

She was taken to a ward where she was being taken care of.

Ben sat in the reception room praying silently for her.

He was restless as his eyes roamed about looking for any nurse that might call him.
He rose to his feet when a nurse eventually walked up to him.
“how is she?”
ben impatiently asked.
“she’s okay now”
the nurse responded.
His eyes immediately brighten up at what he heard.

He wasn’t nervous anymore, he was just anxious to see his wife.
“please, can i see her”
he courteously asked.
“yea, why not?, just follow me”
the nurse replied while they both walked to her ward.
Nancy la!d on the hospital bed, her head was bandaged alongside some other part of her body.
Ben took her hand and smiled at her but she didn’t reciprocate the gesture. She didn’t smile back, she only wore a gloomy face staring back at him saying no word.
“are you sure, she’s okay?”
ben asked the nurse wondering why she was behaving weird.
“she’s fine but she had a high blood pressure”
the nurse replied.

“high blood pressure?”
ben asked as he wasn’t sure of that.
“yes, it seems, she brood alot”
the nurse replied.
Ben nodded in the affirmative as he remembered the sole cause of the brooding.
The same thing had also made him brood.
He bit his lips angrily as he remembered his mother.

He shouldn’t have allow them go scotfree.
His eyes blazed with fire.

Not for fear, but for his mother toiling with him.

If only he could see her right there before him, he would have done the unimaginable.
“are you okay sir?”

the nurse asked sensing his worriment.
“yea, i’m okay”
ben replied without facing her.

The nurse shrugged and summoned nancy to get up which she did.
“is she discharged already?”
ben asked as he saw the nurse arranging the room for another patient.
“yes, she is.”
the nurse replied him.

ben drove home with nancy sitting beside him but still didn’t talk.

Ben was about driving in, when he saw a large crowd faraway hovering over what he couldn’t envisage.

He wanted to drive in and dismiss the thought of going to check it out.

But he didn’t knew when he started driving towards the crowd.

“where’re you going to?”
the once silent nancy voiced out when she saw that he wasn’t driving in but rather driving to what dosen’t interest her.
Ben was surprised when he heard her talk, he had been asking her numerous questions but she chose not to talk. Only to hear her ask him where he was heading to.

He also chose to conceal his mouth and moreover, he had no answer to her question.
He pulled the car to a stop just before the huge crowd.

He alighted and went over to them to have a look of what was happening.

All eyes turned to him immediately he was close to them.
“here comes the son!”
someone shouted among the crowd.
