Episode 9
Eno lay on Ugochukwu’s chest , her warm body against his muscular frame, Ekaette was aware of Eno’s plan,she wanted to get a way out through Ugo .
It had been over a year she started seeing Ugochukwu, she thought she could escape the lion’s den, through him, but to her disappointment , every worker in the facility never fell for the trick of friendship, if anyone mentioned escaping they reported to madam Gold.
“Ugochukwu are you are an able bodied young man, it confusing to me why you would choose such a lowlife job.”
He ignored her comment, while his hands was still running around her back , he knew it was against his contract, for him to have a relationship with any of the patients, Magnus as stupid as he was had warned him severally, but Ugochukwu was head deep into Eno.
“You can go to school you’re intelligent! You can join the army or something, why do you choose to involve in human trafficking?”
Eno queried him. He got frustrated with her always asking questions that questioned his morality .
“You think am the devil? You think I don’t have concience? I was brought here by Emaka , in the guise of security guard, when I saw what was happening,I wanted to leave, Madam Gold promised to kill me and all my family members, if i ever tried to resign or tell anyone .”
Enobong was not convinced.
“Ugo you have options, you could have reported to the police .”
Ugochukwu laughed mockingly at her .
“Maybe you being cut off from reality has made you lost touch with things, how do you think we get bullets for our guns? How long has this facility been here and you think the police doesn’t know? If I dare report me and my family won’t last till tomorrow evening, those graves you see at the back, are not only graves of girls who died while giving birth, some are graves of guard men madam Gold killed for failing In their duty.”
Eno lay quietly still in the dark room , she watched as Nurse Amara went into the store and back to the clinic.
” Ugo I don’t want to remain in this place, three of my children have been taken for me to wherever I don’t know , thanks for the contraceptive pills you get for me , I’m longer going to bear children for your madam, I want you to find me a way to leave here.”
Ugochukwu retracted his hands from under her shoulders, he got up, and began to wear his trousers .
” Ok am sorry baby, stay the night with me, I promise I won’t bring up your work issues up again .”
Eno promised . So Ugo relaxed ,it was around 2 AM in the night , the crickets in the nearby bushes why screeching in unison .
” Ugochukwu do you love me ?”
Enobong asked. He was taken aback, for he never expected that question.
“Why do you ask ? Ugo asked her.
“Nothing , I never been in before, I want to know if what we have is love or fling.”
Enobong said .
“Eno I can’t answer your question .”
Ugo replied.
“Ugo can you teach me how to use your guns? The pistol and the long gun? ”
Ugochukwu was surprised at the questions the Eno was asking.
“Eno I don’t know why you want to learn how to use a gun, if the nurses or madam Gold catches me here , I’m a dead meat , I can’t teach you how to shoot.”
Ugochukwu said, Eno feigned being angry .
“Then leave my room now, you can use me how you like but I can’t asj anything, apart from snacks ans drugs from you please go .” She withdrew from him, she got up and wore her night gown.
“Ok I’ll teach you , this the handgun, some call it pistol .” He took from under his pillow.
” So this is the loading lever, you pull the inbuilt magazine out , then you load in the bullet into the magazine, and put it back in like this.”
Eno made him repeat the process severally before she repeated it herself ,Over and over until she had perfected it. Then he taught her how to mount the magazine on the Ak47. Then they swam in the river of passion, from four A.M to five A.m in the morning.
“Puuuunk puuuuunk punk”
Madam Gold’s driver blast her car horn , early in the morning, Magnus was fast asleep, and Ugochukwu was inside the main building .
“Puuuuunk puuuuunk puuuuunk! ”
The driver blast the horn , Magnus jumped out of the student mattress in the security post . He went and saw madam Gold standing outside.
” Jesus Christ! Madam Gold will kill me o! ”
He rushed to the gate and opened the gate .
“Are you mad or something Magnus! How can you keep me waiting? Where is your second Ugochukwu?”
Magnus got confused , he started to stammer and fidget .
“Well he. He went .. go … He patrol.”
Madam Gold knew Magnus to be a cowered.
“Get him for me , let him see me at my office this very minute!.” Her driver zoomed off towards her office .
“Kuum! Kuumkumm! Mum!”
Magnus knocked at Eno’s door. Ugochukwu was startled out of out of bed . He immediately jumped up and started gathering his clothes, he hurriedly threw his clothes , over his head, he looked at his wristwatch it was about six forty , he had slept too much! He oponed the door to see an angry Magnus.
“Which kind of sleep are you sleeping? I told you to leave that girl you refused! One day that girl will cause you your big head. Madam Gold is here she wants to see you at her office,
and be warned she’s very pissed at us .”
They both rushed to Madam Gold’s office, Ugochukwu had his Ak47 riffle slinged over his right shoulder, and the Beretta pistol on the belt of his left , a jack knife clinched tight on his left hand.
” Madam good morning ma.”
Ugochukwu greeted her . The furious woman didn’t bother to reply.
” I don’t need to tell you what will happen to you and members of your extended family, if any of those girls run away ? I was at the gate horning for over thirty minutes while Magnus here snored like a cow. I pay you to watch this compound and not to sleep or wander about. Now you two vermins leave my office.”

The two night watch shuffled their way out of Madam Gold’s office that looked like an executive office. The walls were covered with expensive art works,the floor was covered with exotic tiles, her office had exquisite furnitures and electronics.
” Ugochukwu one day you’ll get us into trouble! Somebody will see you with that girl and report and that will be the end of us , as Odogwu and Calistus , you know she’s not bluffing , she will kill us , stop seeing her .” Ugochukwu ignored him, he knew he was going the wrong way , but couldn’t do anything about it.
Ugochukwu sneaked into Eno’s room, Ekaette and Carolina who shared a room with her , moved out , to stay the night with other girls..
“Ugochukwu you’re not afraid of being caught ? Yesterday…”
He kissed her and cut of her words .
“I can die for this body ! You’re sweeter than mango or orange, If a man doesn’t die for your body what would he die for?”
Eno smiled she imagined, if she would have loved Ugo if they were outside there. Clothes flew around the floor, skin touched skin and the two fell into the river of fantasy. After they had drank of the sweet passion to their fill, they lay in bed, only the duvet covering their unclad body .
“Ugo I can’t remain here! I have family to meet , I have dreams to meet, I can’t remain mqdam Gold’s rat.”
Ugochukwu was not happy about the new turn of conversation.
“Eno I’ve taken enough risk agreeing to date you, every minute I spend with you , I put my life and that of my family at risk, thwt woman isn’t bluffing, she killed two of my friends Odogwu and Calistus, when they were caught helping some ladies to escape the facility, if I try it, she knows my village which is not far from here. She would go after my family.”
Eno felt unconcerned about his cry .
“Well you can kill her , shoot her ! She cannot continue destroying lives and dreams.”
Ugochukwu pushed her away from him.
“What did you say ? I cannot kill anybody, when I shot your friend Mary, it was a mistake, I never wanted that to happen, and my conscience is still killing me .”
Eno was unimpressed. She felt he brought himself to work for Madam Gold so he should face the consequences.
” I’ve begged you to report to the police and you refused, saying she had connections up to the DIG’s office of the zonal headquarters? Six years of my life wasted! I can’t stay here anymore.”
Eno was furious at his refusal, she cleaned her face with her wrapper that lay on the ground.
She got off the bed and headed to the general bathroom to ease herself.
“Eno where are you going? You don’t know it’s already curfew time? I will report you to Ugochukwu!”
Nurse Amaka said . Eno ignored her , but she wouldn’t go away
“Get back into your room! Or I report you to madam Gold tomorrow morning.”
Eno was volcanic mad at her .
“Tell your madam Gold, what else can she do to me ? Kill me ? You think am afraid of dying? Dying is better than living for nothing! Now get out of my way!”
She pushed Nurse Amaka out of her way . She went into the big bathroom, the walls of the bathroom was covered by white tiles , from the ground up to half of the wall, there was about six sinks for washing and brushing, and many showers stands above for many girls to bath at the same time. She remembered the first time she had entered the bathroom, when Chibuzor had battered her , she decided she was going to do something about it.
When she got into the room, she washed her her face ,eased herself and headed back to the dorm. Ugochukwu had already slept off, he was snoring like an elephant, Eno, feared for nurse Amaka not to hear his snore and come to investigate, she turned on the light and saw Ugo’s Ak47 riffle standing against the bed, she thought of carrying and using it against Ugo, but she knew the soud would bring Magnus. She slowly shifted Ugo head from the pillow, she slipped her hands under the pillow touched the cold steel of the pistol, she dragged it under her pillow. She couldn’t sleep all night , around five Ugo woke her up for a round of love making, she didn’t participate with him, she lay there allowing him pleasure himself, why she wandered about what , she was going to do with the pistol under her pillow, he slumped into another round of sleep, after he had sent out the liquid of life . Eno sat up all night, as tears ran down her face. She removed the pistol cocked it, while standing over Ugo, he opened his eyes to meet the shock of his life.
“Eno what are you doing? Take that gun away from my face! It’s not a toy!”
He watched hot tea flow down her face, he knew it was over for him.
“I’m sorry Ugo, I have to do this ! Fot me and the other girls, I gave you many opportunities to right this wrong and injustice to us , you failed, you’ll stand in my way.”
She squeezed the trigger and released two bullets one hit Ugo in the stomach, the other one hit him in the face, he lay stone dead , on the pool of his own blood, His brain particles splattered over the wall over his head . The sound of gunshots rang around the compound sending the ladies scampering out of bed. Magnus jumped out of the security post running towards the sound of the gunshot.
