Day 11 of 35

Mwewa was excited when he woke up that morning, Yande was coming to see him and he was pleased that there was a possibility of him getting good medical care.

He smiled at the nurse who came to attend to him and didn’t groan as much to the pain when his cuts were being washed.

‘Someone is in a good mood today.’ The nurse said as she dumped her cloves in the basin that she had come with

He smiled at her without a word, he didn’t want to ruin his mood.

She checked his vitals before walking out, she was about to close the door when Yande walked in.

He smiled at him but he didn’t return the smile and now Mwewa was wondering if something had gone wrong.

‘Is something the matter?’ Mwewa asked but Yande didn’t respond

The smile on Mwewa’s face disappeared, he knew then that something was wrong.

‘I just found out some disturbing news and I would want you to clear it.’ Yande began

‘What’s that?’ Mwewa asked trying to sit up right

‘Tell me something.’ He said shoving his hands deep in his pockets

‘Are you the only man that Abigail dated or had sex with?’

Mwewa was taken back, that isn’t something he was expecting.

‘I was.’ He said not sure

‘Mwewa I need you to remember every detail of the relationship you had if at all I have to help out with this case and of course your health.’

He closed his eyes as if to remember something

Work was boring that afternoon, Abigail’s internship had come to an end and I knew she was just home. The urge to go to her place was strong but I also knew if I went I wouldn’t keep my hands off her, just the previous day we had been together and I left her sore. She had complained in the morning and I felt bad about it but she said it was a bitter sweet pain.

I left the office and proceeded to her place, I had not called her or texted her but just drove there.

I found her seated on the verandah filing her nails, she looked beautiful in those tiny shorts and vest. I could feel my blood already rising and it would have to take the better part of me to keep my hands off her.

I sat with her and helped her to cut them, I had not done this in a long time and thoughts of my first days with Ellie hit me but I quickly brushed them off.

When done we went into the house, I was starving and luckily she had not eaten so we decided to cook together. I cooked the rice whilst she made gravy and added some tinned tilapia, I made a mental note to get her food supplies because she was running out.

After eating we took a bath together which led into more than we had both planned, when we were done we took a nap but was awakened by her ringing phone.

She never picked up that call, she said it wasn’t important but the person kept calling until she finally did.

I could make out the sounds from the other end, it was a man and he sounded pretty upset. She had to cut the line because he kept yelling.

I didn’t ask who he was, we had made it clear between us about boundaries. I wasn’t going to cross mine.

‘He is someone from my past.’ She began to explain

I looked at her as if waiting for her to go on.

‘He can’t get over the fact that I am no longer with him. He used to pay for this house and so he feels I am disrespecting him by bringing in another man.’

I raised an eyebrow

‘One of the neighbors must have told him.’ She added

The next day I contacted some agents that I knew and in less than two days a house was found in Rockview, I paid for the first six months and that is how she moved in.

‘Sorry but you spending that huge amount of money on her rentals, didn’t your wife ask where you took the money?’

‘She did but I lied to her, told her I invested it in a project but Ellie is intelligent. I am sure she figured it out.’

‘Weren’t you ever scared? That she would figure it all out?’

‘I refused to think about it, plus I thought I knew my wife. Honestly I thought I did.’ Mwewa said hurt and guilt in his voice

Everything was perfect between Abigail and I, we clocked a year together and some days things were okay between my wife and I but I still went back to her.

It got so worse that some days I had to fake trips just so I could spend nights with Abby, she never demanded for much. In the year that I had been with her not once did she ask for money from me unless she was really desperate and I was always the last option she came to.

‘Sorry for cutting you short there, society believes a girl can only date a married man for his money, so what are you telling me.’

Mwewa laughed.

‘Abby isn’t part of that percentage of the women, she loved me genuinely and I knew it.’

‘Okay.’

We were happy together and everything was going perfect until she told me that she had missed her period, we had been using protection all along but a month ago, I had gotten so overwhelmed. We didn’t have any and so I just went in raw, pulled out but anything can happen.

It was our first pregnancy scare, she was scared. Told me she was in it alone, that she knew which battle I would pick to fight for given the choice. There was truth in her words but I didn’t want to think about it, I was selfish yes and I wanted the best of both worlds but I couldn’t begin to imagine what my family would go through if they were to learn about my infidelity.

The coming week was the hardest for us both, she refused to do a home test saying she just wanted to wait for her period and if it didn’t come soon she would have a scan done.

Luckily the coming week they started, and we vowed never to get overwhelmed again.

‘Did that happen?’ Yande asked

‘For a while yes, but it kept bugging me. Her skin on my skin had been one of the most beautiful experiences. I wanted to feel that again, I wanted to be inside her and feel her warmth again.’

‘And so you did it?’

‘Yes we did and they were no pregnancy scares after that.’

Yande packed up his recorder, that was enough for the day. Now he was trying to figure out if the two had really fallen in love or were just infatuated with each other. Now he had to figure out if Ellie had known that her husband was in love with the other woman hence the reaction

‘I loved Abby with everything in me, Ellie too.’

‘Is that why you let her go?’ Yande asked anger registered in his voice

‘Yande I had to protect my family.’

‘Whilst leaving her in the cold?’

‘You have no idea what I gave up when I walked out on her.’

‘You know what, I am glad your wife did what she did because you have no idea the pain that Abby went through.’

‘What do you know about Abby?’ Mwewa asked noting Yande’s anger

Yande walked out knowing fully well that he had just acted unprofessional, he picked up his phone and dialled a number.

‘I need you back in the country by the end of the week.’ he said

‘Yande I can’t.’ She said on the other end

‘You cant or you won’t?’ He asked

She looked at the sleeping form in the crib before responding.

‘We will get ready.’ She said dropping the line
