Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 4

Victoria: Mummy, I didn’t come back home to marry ooo, I still have husband in Lagos. Which one is I should marry? I just got here two days ago and you’re telling me to marry. Mummy please don’t start.

Victoria’s mum: Dear, that man is rich ooo and he still wants to marry you knowing you have a daughter and he’s not old.

Victoria: Mummy, see I don’t like this rubbish.

Victoria’s mum: You’re high. Why do you think, your father and I consented to you coming here?, you better get a grip of yourself ooo

Victoria: Mummy, but this is absolutely wrong. I’m still married to James. It’s just that things are not buoyant for now, so I have to live here for a while.

Victoria’s mum: When your father returns, you let him know, in the meantime, come and cook food for my granddaughter..

James: Thank you sir, thank you very much for finally agreeing to see me.

Idowu: (With a smirk on his face), Anyways, you are interested right?

James: (Reluctantly) Yes.

Idowu: Yes!, that’s great.

James: yes, yes, so uhm
. How do I go about it or what do I have to do?

Idowu: (Laughed), Calm down, there’s no need to rush, there are a few things you have to do before you can be involved.

James: Few things like what?

Idowu: I’m coming to that, hold on.

James: Okay, okay, take your time.

Idowu:Let me call Gbenga (Brought out his cell phone)

James: Who is Gbenga?

Idowu: My personal bodyguard, he’s even like a younger brother to me.

James: Okay, that’s good.

Gbenga: That Mr. Idowu is becoming a thorn in my flesh.

Bodyguard 1: As in, that man is something else.

Gbenga: Acting like he cares and all. He’s a pretender. He actually thinks we are fools. The other day, we were almost caught and he deserted us just like that.

Bodyguard 1: That man is just pure evil. It’s because, he’s the leader na.

Gbenga: What do you mean?

Bodyguard1: We want you to be our leader.

Gbenga: Me?

Bodyguard1: Yes, you. We’ll be having a secret meeting in two weeks with Oga(Mr. Johnson). We’ll discuss you there, don’t worry.

Gbenga: It’s Idowu. (He showed his phone to the bodyguard).

Bodyguard1: Pick am na

Gbenga: Hello sir.

Gbenga: Yes sir, yes sir, I’m bringing it now. (He hung up)

Gbenga: He wants to involve that man we threw out that day.

Bodyguard: So fast?, does he trust that man?

Gbenga: Hmmmm, he’s the oga na. I have to get the file for his thumb print and signature. You know?, the usual process.

Idowu: Gbenga, what took you so long?

Gbenga: I’m sorry sir, I tried to get here as soon as I could.

Idowu: No problem. Bring the file here.

Gbenga: Yes, sir.

Idowu: James.

James: Sir.

Idowu: You have to fill in your details, including your account number.

James: Okay, that wouldn’t be a problem.

James was adamant about what he was venturing into but, to him, there was no other choice.

Idowu: When, you’re done, you give the file to Gbenga, I need to go out.

James: Just like that?

Idowu: Yes, just like that.

James: so, I should just go home?

Idowu: Yes go home. We’ll contact you. This file has to go through some people. I’m not the only oga.

James: (Frowned) okay, no problem.

After a while, James had finished filling all the required spaces in the form including a testimony that he’s now a certified partner given a job by Mr. Idowu.

When James got home that afternoon, he thought of his wife and kid. He would have called but for lack of airtime. Fifteen minutes after, he settled down to eat lunch when he received a bank alert. The sum of two hundred thousand naira was transferred to his account. James wanted to jump for joy but, he decided to think, he felt it was a mistake because, he wasn’t expecting money from anyone.

James: Someone probably sent this money to a wrong account number. Thank you Lord.

James didn’t care if it was a mistake or not, such an amount of money in his account could solve a lot of problems. He made up his mind to visit the bank immediately. Then, a call came in, it was Idowu.

James: Hello, good evening sir.

Idowu: Good evening James. Did you see any alert?

James: (Excitedly) Yes sir, I did. The sum of two hundred and fifty thousand naira. It was from you?

Idowu: Of course, it was from me. Did you think money just crawled up into your account or the bank decided to dash you money.

James: Wow!, thank you sir, thank you sir, I can’t say thank you enough.

James couldn’t truly say thank you enough. His heart could not contain the joy. He stood up from the stool, hopped on the bed and started rolling about on the bed like a raving lunatic.

Idowu: (Heard a loud thud) James, are you alright.

James: I’m more than okay sir.

James was glad but he still had to think again. He found it odd that such an amount was transferred to his account when he had done nothing.

James: Sir, but, I have done nothing, how come such a large amount of money was transferred to my account?

Idowu: Ah ah, you worry too much, maybe it’s because you’re poor.

James: (Felt offended)

Idowu: Anyways, we took your file to our main oga. He has given us permission to employ you.

James: (Mtcheeew, “Employ”, is for legal jobs)

Idowu: so, that two hundred and fifty thousand naira is just a token we use to welcome members. It’s part of your benefits.

James: Oh my God! Just for being a member?

Idowu: You heard me.

James: Wow! So, when do I actually get to resume?

Idowu: From now. The thing is, you’re to show up when you’re needed. However, you have to come tomorrow by 8:00pm. You need more enlightenment about what you have involved yourself into.

“Involved yourself into”. James didn’t like the sound of those words but, what was he expecting?, it was drugs for God’s sake.

James: Okay, by 8:00pm then. Idowu: Okay.

James: Thanks again, you’re welcome.

James thought of many things he could do with the amount of money in his account. He could start a business since, he had good capital or he could just invest in something and forsake the drugs issue. Then he thought again, if two hundred and fifty thousand naira was transferred to his account for just being a member, surely, more would be sent if he did so much as clean a drop of water for them. He wanted to be rich like Idowu and prove to his wife, his In-laws and many other people who had always looked down on him that he could become successful. He would go into the business and drop out as soon as he had made enough money. To James, the business had nothing to do with murder or any vile stuff but, he thought wrong.

Idowu: Where’s my money?

Debtor: (Stuttered), I’ll pay you sir.

Idowu: You always say that, anytime I supply drugs. Now, you owe me half a million. You have messed with the wrong person. I trusted you. Despite the warning of Gbenga. I thought you were rich but you’re so poor. So poor that a rag has more value than you. At least, a rag can wipe off water. You’re good for nothing and since, you’re good for nothing, you don’t deserve to live. At least, I’d be doing the world a favor by ridding it of one useless fellow.

Debtor: Sir, just give me time, I will pay.

Idowu: Time is something, I don’t have. Gbenga, finish him off. You guys should do it discreetly.

Gbenga would have discreetly disobeyed Idowu but, it was killing and if there was something Gbenga loved doing, was killing. It was like a sport for him.

Gbenga: (Elated) Yes sir. (Jerked the debtor up with force and instructed two other bodyguards to join him).

The debtor was taken outside. Gbenga made haste to open the booth of the car, while the bodyguards held the debtor tightly. Somehow, despite the clutches of the debtor’s predators, he managed to release himself from their forceful grip and ran towards the gate. Gbenga and the two other guys laughed scornfully. The debtor was amazed seeing that he wasn’t chased, he knew something was wrong, he tried to think of why he wasn’t chased but, he couldn’t do that as he was gunned down by Gbenga.
