Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 5

Idowu: What do you mean by that?

Gbenga: I’m sorry sir.

Idowu: sorry for your life. I said kill him discreetly, you killed him in my house. I was in my room and I could hear the gunshots. Do you think people living around won’t hear it. You all are fools. Big fools.

Gbenga: We are very sorry sir.

Idowu: Where’s his body?

Gbenga: In the booth.

Idowu: Do away with it. Discreetly. And you better be sensible about it.

Gbenga: Yes sir.

James was idle, he had nothing to do except to wait till 8:00pm to meet Idowu. He decided to call his wife and probably show off.

James: Victoria, how are you?

Victoria: I’m fine.

James: How’s Laura?

Victoria: Laura is fine.

James: Okay. Errrm Victoria. Send your account number to me.

Victoria: James, what for?

James: Why else would I need your account number?. Of course, I want to send money.

Victoria: James, what did you do?

James: What’s the meaning of that?

Victoria: I want to know what you did to have enough money that you can even send for me.

James: Are you sending it or not?

Victoria: How much do you want to send?

James: Not much.

Victoria: I asked how much.

James: Fifty thousand naira.

Victoria: James, you have joined cult. You have fifty thousand naira within three days of departing from you. You’re calling fifty thousand naira not much.

James: (angry) What do you mean by cult? See if you don’t need the money, my daughter needs the money so, if you don’t want to use it, use it for my daughter.

Victoria: Wetin concern me? Only God knows where you got that kind of money from.

James: Since, you want to know, a good friend of mine decided to remember me.

Victoria: Liar. Which friend?

James: Don’t provoke me, just send the account number.

Victoria: I’m sending it now.

James scurried down the road and boarded a bus at exactly 6:30pm to avoid being late for his appointment with Idowu. There was no traffic, James got there earlier than expected. Approaching Idowu’s gate, he put a call through to him to inform him of his arrival.

Idowu: Hello James, this one you’re calling me by this time. I hope it’s not to cancel our appointment.

James: No no, in fact, I’m almost at the gate.

Idowu: I told you 8:00pm not 7:40pm.

James: Errrrm’, I don’t understand, I thought coming early would be better.

Idowu: You should know I’m a very busy man. I don’t have any appointment with you till 8:00pm. The gate will be open for you at exact time. (Then, he hung up).

James blamed himself for wanting to impress Idowu. He regretted leaving his house early as he now had to wait outside the gate.

Idowu: Very impatient.

Gbenga: What sir?

Idowu: I meant James. He’s outside the gate.

Gbenga: I thought he was scheduled for 8:00pm.

Idowu: What about the stuff on the table?

Gbenga: The guns?

Idowu: of course the guns.

Gbenga: But, it’s better for him to know what he’ll be involved in.

Idowu: Yes, I know but, that guy is somehow.

Gbenga: Okay, I’ll gather them.

Idowu: Tell the cook to serve dinner now. For two people.

Gbenga: Yes sir. But what if James refuses to join us?

Idowu: Then, we’ll have to take it to the extreme because he knows too much already.

Idowu: Just go and get him.

Gbenga: Yes sir.

Victoria: Mummy, daddy. I called for this meeting tonight because, we have to talk.

Victoria’s dad: Yes, what exactly do you want to talk about?

Victoria’s mum: if it’s about marrying Nonso, it is sealed. We allowed you to have free will. Now, we’ll make the choice for you, that’s the only way you can live in this house.

Victoria: Mum, I’m not a kid oooo

Victoria’s mum: If twenty-one(21) years old is not a kid, then I don’t know what is.

Victoria: (sighed) Mummy, please where is my daughter. I don’t understand why you decided to keep her in your room all evening.

She stood up and went to her parents room. She looked around the room. Laura was no where to be found. She stomped out of the room angrily.

Victoria: Mummy, where is Laura?

James: (Angry) Good evening sir.

Idowu: Good evening. We’ll talk after dinner.

Dinner was very silent and finally what seemed like torture to James was over.

Idowu: Anyways, James, you’ll go for your first assignment tonight.

James: Oh, okay, what assignment?

Idowu: Okay, here’s the thing, someone obtained our drugs. We have to get it back.

James: Then, let’s call the person.

Idowu: No!, something kinda happened, the person is not available for now. So, what we actually want to do is, ransack his house and get the drugs back. We have a buyer for those drugs tomorrow. So, we need it this night.

James: Okay, so, who am I going with?

Idowu: Besides Gbenga, two other people in this same business will join you.

James: Okay sir. What about the person’s address?

Idowu: Gbenga will put you through. (Pointed a finger at Gbenga, then, he stood up to leave.

James: Okay.

Idowu paused as he remembered he had not informed Gbenga about the money involved.

Idowu: James.

James: Yes.

Idowu: Do this job well and five hundred thousand naira will be transferred to your account.

A few weeks ago, if someone had told James that five thousand naira would be transferred to his account, he would have doubted it much more, the sum of hundred thousand naira and above.

James: (Excitedly) Okay sir, consider it done.

Idowu: (Smiled) That’s good.

Idowu: Gbenga come!

Idowu left as soon as he whispered some words to Gbenga that got James curious.

Gbenga: Alright, follow me.

James: Okay.

They walked into another room facing the door leading to the entrance of the living room. James could have sworn that there was no door in the living room, it didn’t seem like a door, it was painted exactly the same as the colour on the wall so, it was hardly noticeable. Two men were already in the room with two bodyguards, James assumed they were the men Idowu talked about.

Gbenga: This is James, he’ll join us from now.

They didn’t bother to fraternise with him, it seemed like, they didn’t care.

(Opened a bag). Here, this is for you. (throwing a loaded gun to each of the men).

James thought it as a joke. He was astonished at how the other men took the guns with ease. He nearly asked why a gun was distributed but, he didn’t want to be a kill joy until, Gbenga made an attempt to hand over a gun to me.

Gbenga: Here’s yours.

James: What?

Gbenga: The gun.

James: Gun? What would I need it for?
