Episode 2

Stanley Pov
Whatā€™s wrong with you Anita, I shouted at her, you donā€™t talk to your Mom like that, fine I knew things isnā€™t fine, but with time, things will be fine. Have you forgotten that she gave birth to you, or is it because she couldnā€™t provide the breakfast food you are expecting i asked, donā€™t worry dear, things will be fine, now that Iā€™m home i will make sure that you girls go back to school and all will be fine again, I moved closer to her for a hug. Anita was seen earlier this morning talking to Mom all because the breakfast food donā€™t seems to be getting ready anytime, though I have also went to meet mama to ask her why. But i was surprised when she told me she got no money to cook and her customers didnā€™t pay her debt, but Anita wouldnā€™t stop talking so i need to come in then. It was Saturday morning, the atmosphere from the village canā€™t be compared to the one in the city, all that was coming from the wind was the sound of birds and some dogs going for hunting. Itā€™s past 12pm in the afternoon, my sisterā€™s are yet to eat, what should i do, though I knew of a woman who sells food stuff down the street, but the problem is the fact that i donā€™t have money to buy, I went ahead to her shop. Good afternoon ma i said to a woman of her 60th, afternoon my dear she replied, I guess you wan buy something, whatā€™s it she asked. Mama i wan buy garri o, but na tomorrow i go give you. I managed to tell her. Okay no wahala, just make sure say i no ask you for my money before you pay me o. She replied . I bought some food stuff from her which i promised to pay her back the following day . I took it home for mama who was just sitting waiting for magic and my sisters who werenā€™t on their good faces all because they were hungry. I came in with a poly bag that contains foodstuffs. They were all surprised to see it. I can see the joy from my sisters face, even mama as they all went to the kitchen to make Eba that afternoon. . .

Seriously i just have to be sincere with myself, Iā€™m not happy seeing my family like this, but then i donā€™t have any choice than to atleast go out to search for a job, weā€™re four in total after my dad died in 1987. I myself and two of my sisters and mama makes us four in total. I went to meet a friend to discuss about getting job to support my family welfare, he promised to help me tell a friend about it or better still if he will be chance to go out together with me so we can both go out to search for a job in the city here in Akwa Ibom. The following day. It was on Sunday morning, mama and my sisters weā€™re seen planning for church, but seriously i donā€™t have any plan to go anywhere, mama has told me severally to go with her but i have been turning her down and the reasons was because of the woman i bought foodstuffs from, her shop is along the road, the only way that leads to church is to pass through the front of her shop, and since i donā€™t have money to pay now. So i decided not to meet her that day. they left for church around 7:30am in the morning. While i stay indoors, I have checked around to see the remaining eba that was made yesterday evening, that was what i ate in the morning till they came back from church. Seriously life has been so hard for me and my family.

The following day it was Monday morning, I took my bath as early as possible though a friend called to tell me of a new vacant position in one company close to village, so i planned to go there atleast to see if i can get a job there then things swill be fine again. I got there around 8:30am and the reason was because I donā€™t have transport fare, so i trekked to the place. I got there and I meet with the manager but they said they couldnā€™t accept me due to what i have and since they canā€™t afford to pay my salary, theyā€™re looking for a SSCE holder. I tried explain to him that i donā€™t mind about the money that i will do the job, but he refused to give me the work, I felt sad, hearing this made me lost my appetite and energy , i never believed anyone would stop me from getting this job, Iā€™m a B.SE holder for cried out loud I groaned. How can a secondary school certificate holder stop me. Well firstly i donā€™t blame him the manager, I will rather blame the government and the country itself, believed everything work for a reason, then i decided to go out to the city and search for any job, but all the company i went to werenā€™t really looking for anyone as at then. This was what really made me weak, the problem now is the fact that i donā€™t have money to go back home, I decided to trek home despite the fact that i have walked through the cities here in Akwa Ibom but i couldnā€™t find any job. I bought a pure water since i was tasty. Thank goodness it relieves me but Iā€™m still a bit weak. I started trekking home when a sound of car got my attention, guess i must have been thinking for a while which makes me not to realize that a car was at my front. Stanley, a voice called. It was coming from someone inside the car, I moved closer to see the person calling , it was my long time friend. Emeka i screamed.

We hugged ourselves for a while, how have you been bro, he asked, it a long story bro, before i could finish saying he cut me off donā€™t worry, now that you have seen me, everything will be fine. We drove home together that afternoon. After we got home, he met with my family they all greeted after proper introduction, but i noticed that Emeka has been staring at Anita ever since our arrival, but since i donā€™t want to be optimistic i donā€™t bother to say anything. I told him everything, how dad died in 1987, and how we have all been suffering to survived since then, he felt pity for me and my family which make him promised to help me, he asked me if i can follow him to Lagos so he can help me talk to one or two of his friends so they can help me secure a job, then things will be fine again. I was happy to hear that at least i can get a work to do.

The following day we both left for Lagos.
