âI donât mean to intrude but did this happen before or after your last case with her?â Michael asked.
âAfter my last caseâ, Hanson said, sternly.
âAnd itâs ended right?â
âYeah. Of course it isâ.
âGreat. Because we wouldnât want any conflict of interest. But I still suggest that you speak to her and let it be clear that she canât let her emotions lead her on in this case and if she still has feelings for you, itâll be best she steps down. Itâs for your own goodâ, Michael said to him.
âSure. Iâll speak to her. Thank you for being straight with meâ.
âIâm your lawyer, I have to do that. The break will be over soon, Iâll be insideâ, he said and he left.
âAre you okay?â Hanson asked Sasha who seemed to be lost in her thoughts.
âIâm not comfortable with Chloe being your lawyerâ.
âSasha she..â
âI get that she was the one who got you out from your previous case and I get that she was there for you. But you had a fling with her and itâs obvious that she has feelings for you. Iâm not going to tell you what to do or who to talk to. Iâm just being sincere with you. Iâm not comfortable with thatâ.
âI get you and after todayâs hearing, Iâll speak to her and be clear on where she standsâ.
âShe still has feelings and itâs not something she can put away just for this caseâ.
âTrue. Letâs see how the hearing goes and weâll handle this afterâ, he said and she nodded.
âAll the best Hanâ, she said and she walked into the building.
The second hearing after the break began and Michael took over. This time, it went well and he dragged Ross for everything he did. Ross was in hot waters for infringing on Hansonâs rights by digging into his sealed police reports and he was in hot waters for letting emotions get between him and his employee. He was required to provide enough evidence to show that his intent was right when he went digging and he was also to provide the procedures he took to get the document unsealed.
When the hearing was over, as Sasha was stepping out, Ross pulled her aside.
âRoss, what again?â
âYou know my intent was right. I was looking out for my company when I went to dig into thatâ.
âNow you want to lie? You did that because of me. I know you had good intentions when you were doing that but Ross you still broke the rules when you did it. What were you expecting was going to happen when you got that info?â
âI thought he actually did it and was released on a deal or for good behavior. I didnât know that he was innocent and I was just trying to let you see who he truly was because I didnât understand how he just popped into your life. Our livesâ.
âDo you even know how I met Hanson? Heâs not done anything to you but you just keep seeing him as a threat. He didnât barged into our lives. Heâs never even made a move on me. Itâs all me. And if you listened and understood that, you wouldnât be in this positionâ.
âHmm. I just cared about you so much and I felt he was trying to get you or use you. You know how these guys with no money behaveâ.
âI get you but now this is what it isâ.
âDo you still care about me?â
âOf course I do. I hold no grudges against youâ.
âGreat. I need a favor and Iâll back out and give him back his jobâ.
âWhat favor?â
âIâll want to put you on the stand on our next hearingâ.
âWhat?â
âYeah and Iâll need you to let the jury know that I was looking out for my company when I did thatâ.
âBut Iâll be lying and be putting Hanson towards the point of losingâ.
âHe wonât lose Sasha. Heâll still win If the jury sees that I did it because of you, I might go to prison because it was a sealed document but if they realize that I did it because of my company, they might understand and I might get house arrest or probation or just a fine. Please Sasha I need this. I would even drop the harassment suitâ.
âHow did you even get the sealed document?â
âSomeone at the district attorneyâs office, owed me a favor and I convinced him to do itâ.
âOh my God Ross. You went too far and I donât want to lie in court it could come back to bite meâ.
âI would prepare on how the questions will go and how you should answer. You wouldnât have to lie, I just need you to imply that it was for my companyâ.
âHmm. I told Hanson that I was going to stay out of thisâ.
âI canât go to prison Sasha. Pleaseâ.
âIâll have to think about it Ross. Just give me timeâ.
âThank you so muchâ, he said lifting her two hands. He kissed it and he left.
Sasha was confused and didnât know what to do or think. She wanted to talk to Hanson about it but she knew that it could be used against Ross in court. She didnât want him to go to prison because he was trying to look out for her.
âHey, we had a little victoryâ, Hanson said, lifting her and swirling around.
âYeah, we didâ, she said, forcing a smile.
âYou donât look too happy. Is it because of Chloe? Iâd go right now and let her know that she canât represent meâ, he said to her as he dropped her back on the floor.
âYeaahhâ, she said, forcing a smile.
âOkay. Iâll speak to her then. But for now. Letâs go and celebrateâ, he said to her and she smiled.
âHas she left?â
âYeah. She had to run off, she said she had an emergencyâ.
âOkay and what about Michael?â
âHeâs also gone. You know lawyers, theyâre always busyâ.
âYeahâ.
âSo letâs go. Where do you want us to go to?â
âItâs your victory. You decideâ.
âOkay. Uhm, letâs go grab some ice cream and hand out at the park. What do you think?â
âThatâs okayâ, she said to him and they left.
Hanson and Sasha were both at the park, taking a walk as they licked their ice cream.
âSasha, your energy is kind of low. Is there something bothering you?â
âIâm fineâ.
âYou know you can tell me anythingâ.
âIâm okay. I guess Iâm just not too happy that Ross might go downâ.
âMmm. I get you. Of course I donât want to see anyone go to prison or be hurt or anything of that sort but itâs what it is. He came at me first with a suit and he fired me. I had to fight backâ.
âI get it. Of course you have every right to fight back. Itâs still making me feel somewayâ.
âIâm sorry you feel that way and Iâm sorry that youâre kind of in the middle of thisâ.
âNo, no. Itâs my fault that this happenedâ.
âItâs not your fault at all. Itâs not your fault that Ross felt insecured by my presence. Itâs not your fault that we both developed feelings for each other. things canât be controlled but itâs how we manage them that countsâ.
âHmm. You have a point. Well, I hope it works out well on both endsâ.
âYeah. Now brighten upâ, he said, putting his ice cream on her nose.
âDid you just do that?â She asked and he wiggled his brows and stepping away.
âIâm so going to get youâ, she exclaimed and she ran after him.
The following Sunday, Sasha was in her car, waiting for Samantha to get in.
âSammy!!â She exclaimed and she blew her horn.
âIâm here, Iâm hereâ, she said, getting into the car and Sally got in too.
âAm I blind or do I see two of you?â Sasha asked surprised.
âWeâre not even that identicalâ, Sally said, rolling her eyes.
âHow did you get her to come?â Sasha asked.
âWe had a deal. She made me cover for her in class and to pay for that I asked her to follow us to churchâ.
âWowâ, Sasha said, laughing. âThe angels are going to dance in Heaven todayâ.
âCan you just move the car?â Sally exclaimed.
âIf you donât keep that tone down, Iâm going to sprinkle holy water on you. You know how demons react to holy waterâ, Sasha said to her.
âThe last time I checked you were one too. At least Iâm not going to church because of a manâ, Sally said to her.
âYeah youâre going because your dumb ass couldnât sit in class. Every person in church got there on their first day because they were invited, so your post is invalidâ, Sasha said and she drove off.
After church, Sasha made an effort to be friendly to those who were trying to speak to her.
She was approached by different sub ministry groups to join their sub ministry.
âDo you sing?â One of the gentleman asked her and Sally burst out laughing. Samantha pulled her away and took her to her church friends.
âI canât sing. I donât even try unless Iâm in my bathroomâ, Sasha said to the man.
âDo you dance?â Another asked her.
âNo. I donât have any talent actually. When God was creating me, Iâm sure he forgot to add thatâ, she said, snickering.
âAww donât say that. Iâm sure youâve got a gift. You just need time to see what isâ.
âAt this age? Nah. Thereâs nothing to seeâ.
âMmm, but you cook right?â
âYeah everyone can cookâ.
âNot everyoneâ, a guy said to her as he laughed at the lady standing by him.
âShe canât cook to save even a catâ, he said and they all laughed.
âMmm, so since you can cook, you can join the care teamâ, one of the ladies said to her.
âMmmm, what exactly do you do?â
âWeâre in charge of everything that has to do with refreshment. On normal Sundays, we donât so much. We just prepare and sell snacks but during huge programs, we do a lot of cooking and preparing other stuffâ.
âMmm, okay. Iâll think about itâ, she said to her.
âOr you can join the ushering teamâ, another lady said.
âOr the praying teamâ, a guy added.
âNo, Iâm goodâ, she said and they all laughed. They talked for a while till Hanson took her away.
âWhere are we going to?â She asked.
âTo see the senior pastor. Heâs free now and if we donât hurry, heâll be occupied againâ, he said to her and they increased their pace.
On getting to the office, they saw a man walking in but Sasha quickly rushed and blocked him.
âIâm sorry but we really have to see himâ, she said to him and Hanson chuckled.
âGood girlâ, he said to her as he gave her a fist.
âPastor Jude,â, he said as he took his seat and Sasha took hers.
âHey Hanson. How are you doing?â
âIâm good. How about yourself?â
âIâm awesome by Godâs grace. Hey, whatâs your name?â He asked Sasha.
âMy name is Sashaâ.
âYou look familiarâ.
âReally?â She asked.
âYeah, Iâm trying to remember where I saw youâ.
âI think itâs at the food competitionâ, Hanson said to him.
âYeah yeah, thatâs it. I never forget a face. Youâre welcome Sasha and your food really taste great. I was one of the few who ate itâ.
âIâm glad you enjoyed itâ, she said and he smiled.
âUhmm Papa. I actually came to introduce her to you as my uhmm girlfriendâ.
âWow! Girlfriend? Thatâs amazingâ, he said, smiling.
âIâm really happy for you twoâ.
âThank youâ, Hanson said, smiling.
âI canât wait to see how this journey turns outâ, he said to them. âSasha I would love to get to know you more. My wife would love that too, sheâs supposed to be here but sheâs attending to a few things somewhere in the church I guess. But yeah weâd love to know more about you. When do you think you can visit?â
âVisit the church?â
âNo. Our house. Itâs always open to everyoneâ.
âUhmmâ, she said, uncomfortably.
âYou can come with Hanson or anyone if you feel uncomfortable coming aloneâ.
âGreat. Maybe somewhere this weekâ, she said to him.
âGreat. Iâll be expecting youâ.
âOkayâ, she said, forcing a smile.
âLet me just pray with you before you goâ, he said to them and he said a short prayer and then they got up to leave.
âHanson, Iâll like to see you tomorrow or this eveningâ.
âOkay Papaâ, he said and they left.
He walked her to her car. Samantha and Sally were already there, waiting.
âOh finallyâ, Sally said when she saw her.
âYou must be Sallyâ, he said to her.
âAnd you are the man whoâs the source of my nightmareâ, she said and he laughed.
âWow, then I must be doing something wrong. What can I do to be the man of your dreamsâ.
âMmmm, letâs see. Wipe your existence so that Sasha doesnât get to see you and in that way, she ends up not coming here and then Samantha too would eventually sit at home and no one would have to bring me hereâ.
âSally!!â Samantha said to her and Hanson laughed.
âItâs unfortunate that Iâm not Thanos, I would have done thatâ, he said to her.
âReally unfortunate!â
âIf I was Thanos I would have wiped off whatâs making you feel the way you feelâ.
âHow do I feelâ.
âThat you donât belong hereâ.
âOf course I donâtâ.
âWhere do you belong?â
âThe club, under a boy and what notâ, Sasha said to him.
âYou were once like that, so donât judge meâ, Sally said to her.
âMmm, I donât think those places deserve someone as beautiful and energetic as youâ, he said and she rolled her eyes.
âSo the church deserves that?â
âNo God deserves that. He made you in his image and gave you free will and everything you have. I think itâs fair to Him that you atleast thank Him for itâ.
âAnd being in church, is the way to thank him?â
âNot necessarily. You can thank him by giving back that loveâ.
âHow?â
âBy acknowledging that he loves you and spending more time with himâ.
âI seeâ.
âWeâll talk about it more. Thatâs if you want to hear moreâ.
âIâd love to hear moreâ, Sasha said to him and Sally roles her eyes.
âCan we go now?â She asked and Sasha ignored her.
âCan you come with us to continue this conversation?â Samantha asked.
âBut he wasnât even talking to you twoâ, Sally said to her and Hanson chuckled.
âI canât come now but Iâll be there in the eveningâ.
âOkayâ, Samantha said, smiling.
âIâve got to go back inside. Bye and Iâll see you this eveningâ, he said, hugging Sasha and pecking her on her cheek. Then he left.
Sasha was in her bedroom about to sleep when she got a text from Ross.
âHave you given it a thought?â
âYeah but Iâm still not sure on what to do?â
âSasha please. I canât go to prisonâ.
âOkay. Iâll meet up with you tomorrow and youâll take me through what exactly you want me to doâ.
âThank you so much. See you tomorrow and have a good night â¤ď¸â.
âGoodnightâ
