Read Story: SEASON 1 Episode 20
Miebaka was on the hospital bed with a bandaged arm when the doctor entered. He was beginning to get relieve. He had watched on Tv, Shiberâs trial on how she was said to have killed the children of one Alhaji, âWhy would she do that?â he said to himself. He had concluded that once he was strong heâd go to the cell where Shiber was in to demand for explanation.
The doctor came in and interrupted his thoughts,
Miebaka: âHow are my kids,doing?â
Doctor: âThey are responding to treatment Mr Miebakaâ
Miebaka: âThank you Doctor, I do appreciate that and May God continues to strengthen you and your profession.
If not for the Maid that alerted me on time, I wouldnât have known house is on fireâ I had to rush and come back home to rescue my children
Doctor: âHow are you feeling too?â
Miebaka:âGood! Just for the little pains!âDoctor: âThatâs good. Thank God you and your kids were rushed in on time if not none would have survived. Iâm canât believe how the babies werenât choked by the smoke!â Miebaka sighed as tears rolled down the eyes
Miebaka: âWhen would we be discharged!â
Doctor: âin two days time!â
Miebaka:âCan I come and see my twins?â
Doctor: âafter a little rest! They are still asleepâ.The doctor sedated him and left..
Finally sleep tussled me to the ground, and I slept off. I woke up feeling erratic. Something wasnât right within me. That was the feeling that tore me.
They took us for manual labour and the 8pm fight became the feast for my mind. I couldnât stop thinking of it. In the fields, Presido always tried in her best in getting in my way but I avoided her like cancer. I had to even feign illness had,
Me: âI no well!â I called out to one of the Warders.
Warder 1: âIf you like make you die here sef!âI turned back when no one was looking dipped my fingers, three of them, in my mouth as if I was going to touch the oesophagus and threw up. Another Warder came to me. She seemed nice.
Warder 2: âWetin dey do you?âI continued throwing up,
Me: âI no well!â
Warder 2 : âAny man touch you before dem carry you come here?â
Me: âYes, my husband!â I nodded,
Warder 2: âAh, na belle be dat na!âShe was a superior to Warder 1 the harsh one. I was taken into the cell and given food to eat. I wasnât truly ill but you know fear has a way of making one feel awful. I was scared that my throat was going to be slit in that night. I busied myself with thoughts. I dozed off.
After an hour I woke up, tears rolling down my cheek. Miebaka had appeared to me with our beautiful twins in the hands.
They were all happy and smiling, âDonât worry about us. We are doing fine! Weâd be coming for you soon but make your way right with God first!â those were the words, âMummy!â the babies smiled at me. It wasnât just a dream. I woke up and noticed I was alone inmates were still tilling the ground.
Me: âWhat kind of dream is this?â it felt so real, I didnât know when I knelt and pray, âFather I donât know what to say but Iâm lost without you. I donât know what the dream is! I just want to be reunited my family again! âIt was the first time in my adult life that I had said a genuine prayer. I sobbed when I finished praying. It wasa cry of agony; I was crying out the pains of rape many years ago Alhajiâs torture and all I had gone through in life. I was crying my heart out! That was what I really yearned for all those years.
To cry out the pains that grasped my body and soul. One of my inmates came in, her name was Endurance but formerly known as âBadooâ she was formerly the Presido but gave up her position when she accepted Christ. Stories had it that she was ruthless and it was during her time that male warders started coming in to rape inmates. She allowed them.
Endurance: âHello!â she wore the smell of fresh grasses.
Me: âHi!â I wasnât audible.
Endurance: âYou look troubled!â that sounded funny, who wouldnât look troubled in a cell. I felt irritated.
Me: âAnd youâre some psychologist in cell,I guess!â she smiled at me. Her presence was calming with her gap teeth making her smile next to perfection. It was hard to believe such a beauty would be found in such a place and was once known to be a ruthless leader. Truly looks were deceptive.
Endurance: âI donât mean to pester you but Iâve got a message for you!â startled, those words got me curious.
Me: âEh?âEndurance: âYes!â I sighed and nodded, â God doesnât want you to fight for he has a surprise for you! He said I should tell you to allow him fight for you but first you have to acknowledge him.
And that you were born to befamousâŠ.âThose words again? I thought,
Me: âSee, I was told that from infantry but see where I found myself!â I cackled, âGuess He meant Iâll be famous in a wrong way!âEndurance smiled, the smiled annoyed me,
Endurance: âNo! You got it wrong. He wanted more and better things for you. God isnât evil remember what Mattew 7:11 says, âIf you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!â All you needed to do was look up to him,â those words pricked into my heart and tears dropped. I had never really understood that I needed to look up to God to fulfill my potentials, âYou donât have to cry! He said he had come to your rescue on numerous occasions but you never saw it fit to acknowledge him.
He was going to make you famous through the girlsâ foundation you had started with your husband!âHow did she know all these? I was puzzeled
Me: âButâŠâ she cut in,
Endurance: âYouâre wondering how I got to know all these?â I nodded like my head would go off my body, she smiled and said, âHe is the revealer of all things. Christ knew us before we were born, rememeber? âStubbornly I said,
Me: âI have to fight! If I donât Iâll be killed!âEndurance sighed,
Endurance: âLet him do the fighting for you!âOur inmates ran in chattering, Endurance left for her corner.
Everyone spoke about the fight in high spirits.
Endurance always threw glances at me reminding me of what we had discussed. I had made up my mind to fight even though I was scared,
Me: âNa one day pesin dey die!â I said to myself.
I was fondling with my sharp weapons.
