Episode 14

I woke up to a bucket of water being poured on me. I was tied in a standing position to a pole, and Chima’s smiling face was looking at me.

“How is my darling concubine, and my Useless baby doing?” he asked mockingly.

I stared at his face, still trying to understand what was happening to me. Then it all came back to me. The horrifying dream, the persistent knocking at the door, the smiling face of China before I was knocked out. I gasped as thoughts of Emmanuel crossed my mind.

“What did you do to Emmanuel?” I asked angrily.

“Me? Hian, I don’t have the right to touch him oh. The Governor is the one that will deal with that fish. As for you, you’re bait,” He said while dialing a number on his phone.

The person he was calling picked on the first beep, and Chima put the phone on loud speaker.

“Hello, Chima. Have you seen Nne? Mama and I are looking for her, I don’t know if you’ve seen her,” Emmanuel’s worried voice asked loudly.

Chima smiled and brought the phone close to me.

“She’s with me, and she probably has something to say,” Chima responded.

I had seen things like this happen in movies, and I knew that Chima was trying to use me to lure Emmanuel to his death. I shut my mouth tight, refusing to talk.

“Hello, Nne are you there? Nne say something biko,” I heard Mama asking this time around, with her voice laced with panic.

Chima had gotten angry, and gave me a deafening slap. I yelped from the pain

“Talk before I wooze you slap wey big pass you now,” he screamed angrily.

Emmanuel’s voice came over the phone now, and he now sounded sure and ready to comply.

“Chima, I believe you now that you have Nne, just tell me what you want.”

Chima smiled, ” I’ll text you the addresses of where I am right now. I want you to come alone. Your father wants to have a chat with you. Am I expecting you?”

Emmanuel was silent for a while, and I heard Mama crying in the background.
