Episode 17

The Governor was sitting opposite me, staring long and hard at my face. I was getting uncomfortable with the long stare, when he finally cleared his voice, and in a low voice asked me,

“How much do you know about what’s happening?”

I averted his piercing gaze, trying to find a lie to tell him. He laughed,

“I’ll take that face to mean you know everything.”

He stood up, and began pacing the floor.

“Everybody, leave us,” he ordered.

The thugs left, and I was left alone with him.

“Emmanuel, I don’t really want him dead. He’s my first son after all, and I’m not a monster that would want to kill my own offspring,” he turned to look at me, and found me paying close attention.

” He’s stubborn, that boy. He’s smart, handsome, independent, he has every quality a man would want in his son, but he’s stubborn. Five Years ago, when I realized that his mother had gotten pregnant, and had died while giving birth to him, I had felt guilt. I had searched everywhere, hoping to find him, and when I did I offered him everything. I offered him the right of a first son, to inherit everything I had at my death, and to travel overseas for now, and live comfortably till my political career was stable. What did he do? The stubborn He-goat shoved the offer in my face, saying that I would have to come out and recognize him as my son on national television,” the Governor said with his voice growing louder every second.

He sighed loudly,

“He Said he would expose me to the world for what I did to his mother. He wants me to suffer for a mistake I made when I was young. He wants me to lose everything I’ve worked for, all because of an affair I had in donkey years.”

I looked him in the eye then,

“What are you planning on doing to him when he comes?”

He sat down opposite me,

“I’m offering you both the opportunity to leave this country, enjoy life in comfort there, all at my expense. And all you have to do is convince him to stop all this madness. Are you in?”
