Episode 21

FIVE YEARS LATER

“…It’s not been easy, I’ll tell you that. Working towards graduating as the best student in a university with such intellectuals while managing my family affairs isn’t easy. I thought many times of giving up, but when I remember the fact that I have my baby boy who sees me as his hero, and my mother, I can’t help but continue pushing towards my goal. I wouldn’t for the world forget to mention my boyfriend, a Professor of criminology, Mr Emmanuel Allison. He has once put his body, and soul on the line just for me and my baby, which led to the temporary loss of his legs. He has been a caring man, and despite his disability which according to the doctors will be corrected in a few months, he has gone out of his way to make hard times in my life a walk in the park. He’s a gem, and so is every one of you,” I finished.

The crowd stood and gave me a standing ovation. Emmanuel Sat at the front row in his wheelchair, smiling at me. Mama and Emmanuel Junior, my baby boy were among the standing crowd Cheering for my speech.

I wasn’t finished though.

“Like I said, Emmanuel has been my boyfriend for sometime. I’ve gotten tired of that level of love, so I’ve decided to take the bold step, and do what most African women wouldn’t do.”

I climbed down from the stage, as the crowd still on their feet watched curiously. I walked up to Emmanuel, and knelt before him with a 24 karat Gold ring.

“For saving my life so many years ago,and for being the perfect angel to me all this years, Barrister Emmanuel Allison will you marry me?”

Emmanuel seemed to be at a loss for words,

“Nne..I…I..”

THREE MONTHS LATER

The crowd cheered, as I made my way to the dance floor with Emmanuel, whose legs had healed perfectly.

“I can’t believe I’m married to a woman like you,” He whispered.

“I can’t believe you accepted my proposal,” I joked.

We danced with smiles on our faces.

My happy ever after has just begun.
