Episode 19

I really was in a very terrible state of mind that evening. I felt like dying. I just felt like giving up on life and escape the terrible pain i was passing through.

In just a single day, i lost my mother, Adaora and my happiness. What’s the need living all alone when your loved ones are gone??. I just was in fact totally devastated and empty.

I finally tried calling Adaora later in the night but she never answered my calls, neither did she reply the text messages i nervously sent her.. I went to bed weak, down and hungry. Of course i never ate a single solid meal throughout that day.

Early the next day, i got a very surprising phone call from the last person i was expecting to hear from. The twin girl, {The last girl i had a little fling with towards the end of my youth service year}. Of course you all remember the relationship she had with Tessy??…

“hi Val, where are you?” she asked,
“i’m in my apartment” i answered with a low tone.

“you mean Owerri?” she asked,
“yea yea” i answered.

“so you have been in Owerri all these while but you failed to tell me?. Does it mean you have forgotten me so soon or what?” she asked with a sad tone. I lazily murmured some silly explanation that made no sense even to me.

“i’m coming over” she suddenly announced, surprising me with her words.
“no you can’t” i breathed,
“yes i’m” she insisted and hung up. I fell back on my bed and instantly reflected on many things. Many questions popped up in my mind that moment and i really had a hard time controlling my thoughts.

Of course the timing of the girl’s call was extremely suspicious, moreover i was yet to fully understand whose side she was on. Because at first she tried playing the good watchful sister game on me, later claimed to be working for Tessy and lastly claimed to be in love with me. Someone close to Tessy obviously gave us up to her ex husband. It was quite surprising how the man managed to find us so quickly in a new house Tessy just acquired.

“Or could it be Elinor?” i wondered with a doubt. Tessy never mentioned involving Elinor when the house was purchased, according to her, a friend in Owerri sent her pictures of the house and the house itself wasn’t built in an area traceable with street or house numbers. It was definitely an insider that brought the man and even though i already had lost all that made my life complete. I was still scared of the future.

I definitely knew that nothing would stop Tessy from losing custody of her children and when that happens there wasn’t any doubt she would try falling back on me with full strength.

The last thing i wanted was having her all around me with her love which only had brought nothing but problems to me. But losing her children could make her a very dangerous woman as well, who could do anything to have me all alone for herself, giving the unknown enemy a perfect opportunity to render the final blow.

Elinor? yes Elinor could be the person behind it all, but life has thought me that sometimes things are not always as they seem to be. It could be Elinor, It could be anyone. Perhaps the main target could be Tessy, perhaps me.. Who knows… Only time will tell…
