Episode 28

“c’mon you know i can’t accept it. Just put your money back in the bag” i finally said with a smile, but instead of obliging, Chinwe stood her head in protest.
“you have to accept it unless you want me to feel bad right now” she insisted,
“you know i can’t” i said once again, this time around, holding her left shoulder in a passionate manner.
“okay how about i take you guys out?” she suddenly proposed, throwing a quick glance at Frank who quickly shook his head and shrugged.
“i’m sorry but i’m about heading home. It won’t be a bad idea taking Val out” he answered politely, winked at me and headed to the bedroom to get his packed bag. He left soon afterwards, leaving Chinwe and I all alone.

“so what now?. Are you also going to decline going out with me?” she asked curiously. I breathed deeply, grabbed and hugged her strongly.
“of course i will go out with you and i will never forget this day” i said with all sincerity.
“you are going to make me cry. Please stop” she breathed with an emotional voice.

We finally had a wonderful evening at Mbari Kitchen where we enjoyed plates of pepper soul and wine. We equally used the opportunity to discuss many issues surrounding us. Of course their wasn’t any doubt that Chinwe still loved me. Her action and behaviour showed it all and seriously i had no doubt that she would be a good wife if i was to settle for her. She was homely, respectful, hardworking, adorable and extremely charming. Her humble background equally was a plus for me, an exact opposite of Adaora’s super rich/ influential background.

“i plan travelling home tomorrow to see my mum and family. I haven’t seen them in a long while. I came to visit you straight from my PPA” she said as we got ready to leave the eatery.

“you know what?, i’m taking you home tomorrow” i suddenly announced. She gasped with surprise, her eyes lighting up with joy, but just suddenly they died down as if something instantly hit her heart.
“no it isn’t necessary. There is no need trying to impress me because i took you out for a treat” she said slowly, looking down.
“no dear. You know i have always been close to your family. I just want to see them again” i answered.

“really?” she asked and looked up with tears which quickly formed in her eyes, making me feel a little bit uncomfortable. I reached forward and gently felt her face with my left hand, not minding that we were in a crowded environment.

We finally got back to my house by 7:05pm in a very happy mood, and as we headed into the building, i checked my phones which were in silent mood to see about twenty missed calls from Tessy. I smiled to myself as i instantly reflected on my relationship with her.
Unfortunately, as Chinwe and I climbed the stairs leading to my apartment, we ran into Tessy as she was coming down in an angry mood. I gasped on seeing her, expecting the worst, but surprisingly, all she did was just to walk away without uttering a single word to me, which kind of got me in a very confused state and suspense.

I felt like calling her name to be sure it was really her but couldn’t find my voice.
