What Goes Around (Complete Story)

Episode 11

“Don’t tell me to calm down. How could she? I trusted her so much that when she needed help, I sent my only daughter to assist and what did I get in return? Did you really look at that picture and process the image before telling me to calm down? If Sewe were her daughter, will she do that to her?” Dooshima yells.

” Believe me I was very disappointed in your sister when Sewe told me everything that happened over the months. If not because I lost my job and haven’t been able to secure anyone or raise enough money for business since then, why will I send my daughter to someone so she will gain education?” Sewe’s father laments loud.

” It’s true we needed help with her education but she needed more help which was why I agreed. We could have found a way around her school or enrolled her for tailoring or something else. Becky has done her worst but she hasn’t seen the last of it. I’m going to Lagos first thing tomorrow morning. I need to look in to the eyes of the one I call sister and hear her tell me what wrong I did by sending my daughter to her or what wrong my daughter ever did to warrant such evil.”

Dooshima and her husband are visibly angry though the man is trying so hard to control himself.

The journey to Lagos seemed to have lasted forever. Dooshima could barely wait to give her sister a piece of her mind.

Alas! The moment of reckoning is here.

” Tell me Becky, how heartless can you be? What did we ever do to you you mean bitch? So you made me give you my daughter so you could kill her same way you killed our father right?”

“Oh keep quiet Dooshima. Don’t come into my house ranting like a mad dog. I did not kill father. What rubbish”

” Oh yes you did. Your recklessly drove him to an early grave. ”

” How? It was my life to live. If he wasn’t so religious and strict in his upbringing that wouldn’t have happened. If he gave me a chance to speak to him, if he didn’t make me scared with his constant thunderous voice. If he didn’t make perfection a must irrespective of my humanity, just maybe I wouldn’t have strayed. I repeat, I did not kill him. He died of hypertension.”

” Hypertension that you caused Becky. Now you want to kill my daughter. What demon has possessed you? What did she ever do for you to inflict so much injuries and bruises on her? Wasn’t starving her enough?”

Tempers are flaring already and thank goodness it’s just both of them at home.

” You want to know the truth? You killed father not me and I have hated you ever since that incident. I had a problem and I really needed to talk to someone about it. I went to you because you’re me sister and the only one I thought I could trust at the moment. I confided in you Dooshima and what did you do? You could barely wait for me to finish before you went running your mouth”

” Oh my God! Is this it? What would you have had me do? You were in pain. The foolish quack did a terrible job and left you in severe pain for two days. I was scared, I thought you were going to die. I had to tell someone. We needed to get you help.”

” I didn’t ask you to tell anyone Dooshima. You could have equally gotten me help on your own. It was just you and I in the house. It was something that could have been fixed without involving our parents. Your not being able to keep your mouth shut made father develop hypertension which led to his death. I have never forgiven you. I tried to get back at you in several ways but couldn’t. Every look at your daughter reminds me of your betrayal and makes me hate her. Yes I do, your blood flows through her. I didn’t have the heart to do anything stupid but I made her suffer for all the trauma you’ve caused me.”

“She’s only a child Becky. What does she know? Why punish an innocent girl for what you think I did wrong to you”

” Even the bible says the sins of the father shall be visited upon the children to the forth generation”

“Becky you’re very wicked. I regret ever giving you my child. As soon as this is over, I’m taking her with me. And don’t you think you’ve won yet because this is just starting.

” Oh please get the hell out of my house and never step a foot in it again”

” I will leave Becky but you will hear from me.”

Dooshima turns and uses the exit. She bangs the door or her way out, fussing and cursing under her breath.

She’s very disappointed in her sister. How could she be so mean and heartless.

To think she had no idea what was going on and had even forgotten the incident that happened over half a decade back. How would she have known that Becky blamed her for it and has held grudges all along?

She walks to the gate and stops a cyclist. She waits a minute to catch her breath before speaking.

“Take me to the express please”

“Your money na hundred naira o”

Without saying a word, she adjusts her sagging trouser and sits on it. While on the bike, she contemplates getting a shuttle to the hotel or finding her way to the police station.

She frantically searches her bag for the book in which she wrote the address her husband gave her.

She’s not in her right frame of mind but the anger, hurt and pain in her is driving her towards the station.

She has to talk to the police officers.

She has to see her daughter.

She needs to make sure her daughter leaves where she’s being kept.

She told her husband of her plans not to stay so long but with what’s going on, she may stay a bit longer and do all it takes to set her daughter free. She has suffered enough for a child of her age.

It’s heart wrenching that that the ill treatment has made her turn a towards the dark side but Dooshima is determined to get her back and set her straight with love.

A million and one thoughts are running through her mind. If she’s staying longer than planned then she needs a plan B for accommodation because she doesn’t have so much money for extra days.

She makes a mental note to call an old friend. She may need to put up with her for sometime before leaving for Makurdi.

“Madam, we don reach o” The cyclist drags her back to present.

“Oh, okay. Give me five hundred naira change”

She receives her balance and waits at the bus stop for a bus going towards the police station.
