Getting over this case will be a big relief to Tersoo and Godwin. It’s draining. Within a week, they have traveled two states of no little distance apart.

From Kaduna, they are now in Makurdi, Benue State capital. The people here seem very hospitable and willing to help even total strangers.

The part of it all that shocked the first time visitors was when they passed a compound and stopped to make enquiries, the whole family was eating together and also asked them to join. It sounded strange, it felt strange.

These were people they have never met, insisting they ate together. It takes only a pure heart to offer such. The friendliness of almost everyone they have come across since they arrived is a whole lot to make reference to.

Finding their way wasn’t so difficult after all, despite the visit being their first. They are presently in Fater’s compound, Becky’s brother in-law, Sewe’s father.

” We heard of the incident that happened, you missed my husband, he left for Lagos this morning to see Sewe, Becky and Jason.” Dooshima said.

” Oh, if only we were here earlier”

” Officers, how is my daughter? I haven’t been myself since I heard what happened. My daughter is not capable of hurting a fly not to talk of killing anyone. Please you people have to let her go. ”

” Madam, you seem to be so convinced that your daughter is innocent”

“She is my daughter, I bore her. She has lived with me since birth till not so long ago when she left to be with my sister. I know what she can and cannot do. I can bet my life on it that my daughter did not kill that little boy. She cannot even hurt anyone”

” In same vein, can you say your daughter is not capable of giving a baby blade cuts severally and inflicting pain on him?”

” It’s not true, she can’t do a thing like that”

” It may interest you to know that Sewe confessed to have carried out that act. She told us in confidence that your sister was maltreating her and each time she beat her unjustly, she cut the baby with a razor blade”

” I, I still don’t believe you. My daughter that I know can’t do so.”

” Well, it’s up to you to be in denial but be informed that she admitted to it. Tell me madam, we know Becky is your sister so we would like you to tell us. Do you think she’s capable of murder?”

” No I don’t. Becky is very loving and kindhearted. It’s absurd to even think she killed her daughter.”

” You seem to have so much faith and trust in everyone” Tersoo noted.

” Not everyone, people I’m close to and know so well. There’s really nothing else for me to say here. My sister definitely didn’t kill her child, neither did my daughter kill her cousin”

“Are you aware that your loving and kindhearted sister has been maltreating your daughter for months now?”

” My sister isn’t that kind of person but I won’t say anything about this till I hear from my husband when he returns”

” Okay ma, one last question. We were reliably informed that Jason and Becky are from this parts. Is it possible to direct us to Jason’s house? His family house probably.”

” That won’t be a problem if it will be helpful in solving this mystery.”

She writes out the address for them and explains that it’s not so far to locate since it’s within same town and they can get a cab to take them straight there.

They order for a cab online and wait for about 30 minutes for it to arrive. While waiting, Dooshima serves them hot plates of pounded yam and gender(a native soup). They extend their gratitude afterwards and leave for the address she gave them.
