FRANCISâPOINT OF VIEW
âThanks for coming Mr. John, I really appreciate thatâFrancis said as he shook the hand of the last guest.
âYou are welcome, we are really excited we finally found you, you have no idea how long it has taken us Mr. Francis. Your father would be so excited. You have saved us all our jobs
. Please, once you come back from your journey, kindly notify us so we can arrange a meetingâ
Francis nodded. âI should thank you. I will certainly notify you. I just need some time to digest this. Not every day someone hears his father whom he thought was long dead is still aliveâ
Mr. John laughed. âI understand your point. Take as much time as you need, just please make it snappyâ. He winked at him. âOh, by the way, the food and drinks⊠all deliciousâ
Francis smiled as Mr. John closed the door behind him and then he exhaled loud, slouching on the seat. Those people that just left were from his father. His Father!
Ever since he knew his aunt was just his aunt and nothing more, he had stopped asking questions about his father. As far as he was concerned, his father had no knowledge of his existence, especially since his fatherâs parents were against the marriage between his mother and his father. Just as Aunt Rita has said.
âYour mother, Rosa, my twin sister, was so naive when it came to love
. Your fatherâs families were extremely rich and they had come to our town then, to buy some land properties. The two met, fell in love, had sex and that one time produced you. I was a party girl so I was usually not around, I only knew about you from the letters she wrote to me. I was far away but I got her letters. I told her to seek your father, since he had already gone before she realized she was with a child. Later, after some months, she lamented how rich people could be so cruel, I assumed she went and wasnât given any audience. She wrote about regretting the whole thing, seems your father was already betrothed to a woman. I am not really clear about that. She was sick and her writing was incoherent. By the time I got home, she was extremely sick; she died a week after giving birth to you and naming you Francis Junior. Your father was Francis. Thatâs all I know, I donât even know his surnameâ
So, if his father was betrothed and had no knowledge of his existence, how did he have the knowledge of his existence now? Francis Nicholas is his father! The one and only Francis Nickolas! Out of the richest people in the country, he usually comes third or fourth. How could he be his father! Why does he want to meet with him now after all these years?
âHey Francis, are you okay?â
Rosa interrupted his thoughts. She was packing the used plates and pouring the left over into the dustbin. Her bright eyes looked at him curiously.
âIâm fine Rosa thank you. Rosa, you have outdone yourself, you really impressed me, and Iâm pleasedâ
Rosa curtsied with a smile.
âYou are welcomeâ
âHow. How did you pull it off? The cake, the wine. The chicken was fabulous, I do hope it still remains in the houseâ He demanded curiously.
She smiled so brightly. Wow! Her smile was really incredible.
âYes I may have mistakenly left someâ She teased, wiping the stains off the table. âAnd letâs just say we donât have everything in the house. You are owing me some bucksâ she grinned widely, somehow making those beautiful eyes shine.
He looked away; the smile was beginning to have an effect on him, which he really couldnât explain. He noticed the wallet on the table. He walked over to pick it up and flipped it open. He took out his credit card and handed it to her.
âHere, take the amount I owe you, alongside your salary and the amount you think is okay to get you a new phone.â
She looked stunned. Starring at the card and back to him. She whimpered and flung herself to him
Whoa!
Luckily he was strong and steady enough to prevent them both from falling. It caught him by surprise as she embraced him. She seemed so small compared to his muscular body. Her arms were stuck around him, her hair close to his nose. She loosened her locks already. He caught the smell of Vanilla, cocoa, milk, just from her hair..?
She pulled away, blushing as she realized what she just did. âThank you Francis.â She said almost in a whisper as she collected the card while avoiding his gaze
He was behaving like some Santa Claus when he needed to be saving for his trip. He however, seemed satisfied in some way. Making her happy just woken something up in him. He had spent so many times brooding and feeling sad about the slut of a fiancĂ©. He couldnât remember the last time he felt so satisfied and joyous. Even the news about his father hadnât made him happy. Seeing her happy was making him see things in a better way now.
âWhat s up with the last man, did he get beaten by the food or something. The way he was walking. I wish I saw his face, so I could recognize him when next I see him.â She broke the silence as she hunched her back and was walking as if she was stepping on needles. He remembered John had walked like that, not on purpose though. He didnât find it funny then but now, he was raking with laughter.
âYou are crazy you know that, Rosa?â
She smiled and continued with her work.
He studied her. The girl was really something. One time she would shy, the next, she was funny and lively.
âAre you always like this Rosa?â She looked up. âHow?â
He shrugged. âOne time, you are shy, the next you are playful.â
She smiled again. It made her seem timid a little and prettier too, he liked it.
âIâm lively when I choose to be. Would you prefer not being lively?â
âNo, I like you the way you areâ
That must have sounded somehow. He felt somehow and the way she colored just now, made him realize, it had come out wrongly, he could apologise but it may affect that beautiful smile on her lips and he really didnât want that. They stared at each other for what seemed to be like eternity but probably it was just two seconds
âHello everyone. Oh my God did I miss a partyâ
He sighed and he heard Rosa sigh too. Debby walked towards him with a pleading expression on her face.
âBaby, Iâm really so sorry for going off without telling you anything, I swear, it was an emergency and I lost track of time, I left my phone AND..
Francis stared at her curiously as she continued her idle and excessive talk. Then he glanced at his wrist watch, he has other things to do than to be listening to all these. He remembered he just got to know his father was alive and he still had to plan his travel. He really wished his Aunt was alive to hear this.
Dealing with his âFiancĂ©eâ wasnât his issue now. He seemed unperturbed anymore. Surprisingly, he wasnât even a bit angry.
He needed to talk to someone, Angela should be off today, and he needed to go see her.Without saying anything, he turned and walked towards the flight of stairs.
DEBBYâS POINT OF VIEW
She was surprised at the way he made no response and only stood her up and went to his room. Well, this was easier than she had even expected. The fun she had throughout last night had gotten her so exhausted and she absolutely had no time for drama right now. She turned around, Rosa was still cleaning.
âSup Rosa. Did I miss anything? Why didnât you give him an excuse or something for me. Must I tell you everything you need to do?â
Rosa stood up, straightening her skirt. âYou didnât pick up your calls Debby or his. You could have told me..â
âNext time Rosa, use your initiatives.â Debby interrupted, lowering her voice. âYou should know how things work around here.

. I got you this job so you can cover for me not make me look stupid for hiring you. You work for me, do your job. You are not only here to clean and dust. You make excuses for me when need be especially with Francisâ
Rosa nodded slightly, as she packed the dirt away.
Debby took the phone out of her bag and quickly typed a message to Vera, just then Francis climbed down the stairs. She giggled and practiced sensual stroll towards him.
âHey babe. I hope you are no more angry with me?â she was putting her arms around him and bringing her lips closer to his while he fixed the cuffs of his shirt.
âIâm not angry with you Debby. Besides, Iâm going to work now, we will see when I come back.â
He replied, kissed her on the cheeks and walked out of the house.
âWell. That worked out just fineâ she said to herself as she walked to the piece of cake that was lying in a plate on the table.
