Episode 5

The first one month in aunty Stella house was fun,she was really good to me,she didn’t let me work at all,she does all the work herself,she even took me out for shopping and bought alot of cloth for me,oh least I forgot,nurse titi has been coming frequently to say hi to me,she has been a really great friend to me,we gist,I shared alot of my problems with her and she always encourage me,I told my dreams of being a medical doctor and she promised to support me,Aunty Stella on the other hand have been nice to me,funny enough she does not keep late night or bring guys to the house like she use to do,maybe she has repented…. But how I wish I still had my family because my story just began,the beginning of my hardship.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning, I was still on bed,you know am used to sleeping till anytime I want,because aunty Stella gave the privilege.but it was a different case entirely that Saturday morning. I thought I was dreaming when I suddenly heard my name,keji!keji! At first I didn’t want to wake up cus I was really enjoying the sleep,all of a suddenly I heard a splash,I woke up immediately like I was being pursued by a madman in my dream, but it wasn’t a dream,it was aunty Stella she poured water on me,is this real?

Aunty Stella: are you sick?

Didn’t u hear your name.

Me:stammering a–m so–rry ma.

Aunty Stella:before I pounce on u ehn get out of this room now,you did useless thing.

Me:yes ma….still confused.

I ran down to the sitting room still confused, I was like is this not the same Stella that has been good to me all this while, it was then I knew this is just the beginning. I had footsteps of aunty Stella rushing to the sitting room….

Aunty Stella:see this witch oo,so u still stand there,you wan see wetin I go do you abi,before I open my eyes ehn start cleaning this house room by room,am going out now,if I come back and u have not done what I asked u to do ehn you will have to face me.

I just stood there like a fool, I was suprised,shocked,and scared at the same time i managed to utter the word yes ma.

She turned and hissed,she opened the door and was about leaving the house, to my surprise she turned back again and face me,what does she have to say this time o….

Aunty Stella:before I forget scrub the kitchen and toilets, and make sure u bath my kids,and you must not wake them,whatever time they wake up is when u should bath them, do tiu hear me?

Me:stammering y–es ma.

She banged the door and drove out of the compound.

I didn’t know what came over her,but one thing was sure she have been hiding her true colour,just within a month she has start showing me her real self, it was then I realised she has been making fake promises, she promised to enrol me in a nursing school,is she really going to do that after what she displayed today I asked myself tears rolling down my cheek.

Me:ah!temi ma wa bami o(am finished),God where do I start from….

I cried for almost an hour, when I checked the time,I knew she would be back anytime soon and I will be dead if I don’t do what she asked me to do before her arrival,I remembered the way she poured water on me,and I even recalled the mighty slap she gave musa the other day,chai!! I don die,I stood up and started doing the works,I swept all the house,scrubed the kitchen and bathroom,Cleaned the whole house as instructed, cooked lunch, when I was through I was so weak, it was like I was going to faint,I helped myself with the beans and plantain I cooked, it was when I was eating I heard her children crying,it is obvious they are awake..

Me:chai,y una wake for this kind time nah,o ti re mi o(am tired).

I had no choice I had to bath and Feed them, after all the work I was so tired, I forced the children to sleep so I could also rest,that’s how we all slept off, I for know I for no sleep o!!
