Nadia And Ethan

Episode 19

Continues..

She arrived at Senator Philip’s house, as usual she parked outside the front gate, the gate was opened for her and not like the other day she was immediately allowed in without question, she walked to the front door with all the courage she could gather to herself, upon getting there she rang the door bell, she tried to clam her nerves as it was taking control over her, the door opened by the same maid from last time, just as before she was smiling opening the door to let her in.

Nadia walked towards the sitting room, the maid not going with her, it wasn’t a problem as she knew the way to the sitting room, as she drew closer the voices of two people was heard, she knew one belongs to Senator Philip but the other sounded familiar, not minding this she walked into the room only to stop in her track as she saw Ethan.

Ethan has tried to excuse himself, promising to come visit some other time but was always held back by Senator Philip, he knew he didn’t want him to go as whoever that is coming needed his help but he too needs to get to work, after trying some many times to leave but fail, he decided to wait for who ever Senator Philip wants him to meet but what he didn’t expect was to see Nadia standing in the sitting room with a confuse or shock look on her face.

“what are you doing here?” He voiced out even before he could stop himself, this wasn’t his house so he really didn’t have any right to question her but still his curiosity was getting the better part of him.

“sir, what is she doing here?” He asked again but this time to Senator Philip who has a warm smile on him face.

“come on Nadia, come sit”, he gesture for her to sit, she hesitantly walked to one of the couch that is just opposite Senator Philip making her to sit at the right hand side of Ethan. Ethan eyes burn through her skin as she sits quietly in her seat. There is a strong tension in the sitting room as no one said a word, Nadia was trying so hard not to grow cold feet, she wasn’t expecting to see Ethan here, she has prepared her self for the worst but this in nothing like worst, this is a suicide mission, what was he thinking that he could invite both her and Ethan to meet, she asked him to help but not this way.

Ethan on the other hand was angry but because he was in the presence of his uncle, Senator Philip, he tried to control his anger, he doesn’t know why, he loves to see her and hates it at the same time, the way she rejected him was still fresh in his memory and to make things worst she just keep showing up, he already knew that what ever brought her here was because of her father’s company, she really did it this time, coming to his godfather for help, but what was more bothering him was how she knew about Senator Philip.

Senator was enjoying the tension in the room, he knew it will be like this the moment he invited Nadia over, he hasn’t really expected Nadia to decline his offer, he was proud of her, not everyone will be in her position and still want to keep her dignity, so when the call came in, seeing Ethan was there he decided quickly to allow both talk things out. It will be better that way.

“forgive my manners, I didn’t offer you anything, what will you like?”, Senator Philip asked Nadia who looked up at Senator Philip forcing out a smile.

“there is no problem Sir, I am fine” she replied him quietly, she has been nervous since she saw Ethan, she didn’t know if it was out of fear, she doesn’t get intimidated by anyone so easily, but when it comes to Ethan, there is something that make her want to submit to him presence.

“no way, you are a guest in my house, you should take something”, with that he called the maid who later brought some juice drink for Nadia.

No one has said a word since the maid left after offering Nadia the glass of juice, and Nadia too hasn’t touched it yet.

“so, let’s get down to business”, said the senator breaking the silent in the room.

“Ethan I believe you know the young lady that is sitting just close to you, and the reason he is here

“ well I know her doesn’t mean I know why she is here” he answered with a little pitch of anger on his voice.

“ then let us start again”, Senator Philip said, he knew Ethan was not happy seeing Nadia and he is being rude but it is something he was going to ignore.

“ Nadia why don’t we start with you”. Nadia looked shock at this but quickly composed herself, she wouldn’t want to feel weak now.

“ well, sir, like I told you already, Mr Donald here….”

“ oh please just stop the formality and call him Ethan”, senator said interrupting her, she gales at Ethan who in turn gales at both her and Senator Philip in surprise to what he just heard.

“ she dare not call be by that, only important people has that right, which I don’t think she is one” he said with anger still registered in his voice, he knows he was sounding rude but he doesn’t care, he just can’t seem to control his anger.

Nadia can’t believe what she just heard him say, that was an indirect insult and he has no problem with that, she has been trying to ignore him out of fear but that did it…. She put away her fear facing him now to see him clearly looking at her.

“ why do you always have a problem with me?” she asked not letting her annoyance control her.

“ why do you keep digging into my life” he snapped at her

“ ENOUGH” senator voice silent them.

They both were behaving like kids and he doesn’t know but he seems to be enjoying this.

“ Nadia please continue “

Nadia inhale sharply before continuing

“ well like I was saying, my father took a loan from late Mr Donald ten years ago with the promise of paying back, which he couldn’t because of some financial problem that the company is going through, but nothing was heard about it until now when…. E.. than”, she said stressing his name, he called him by his name not wanting to offend senator Philip, “requested that the money should be paid and in full”, she continues, “ but due to my father financial status, he just can’t meet up, but we were able to come up with half amount of the money, promising to pay back the remaining half with time, but he refused stating a condition that was impossible”, she said hesitantly not wanting to say the next word out.

“ a condition?”, Senator asked not knowing about any condition, his shy didn’t say anything about condition.

Nadia looked at Ethan not sure if she could say it out but Ethan face held no emotion so she turns her face back to the Senator.

“ he want me to marry him, only then will he agree with what we said”

Senator snapped his head to Ethan in shock, he didn’t see this one coming, Ethan was unmoved so he conclude that she was saying the truth.

“ and you refused?”

“ yes sir, I did refuse him, now my father has about two weeks to release the document to his company and of course, some of his other properties, due to this he had a heart attack which we are still taking care of him now, that company is his life, he might not live if its taking away from him”, she said pleaded

Now he understands the reason for Ethan anger, Ethan was angry at Nadia for refusing him, he wasn’t good at getting refused, and he hate the thought of it because it brings bad memories , but what he don’t seem to understand was why Ethan will want to marry her for a little amount of money, for all he knows, Ethan wasn’t one to be serious in a relationship and marriage was out of the question.

“ can you give me a minute with my him?”

“ of course sir”

With this Senator Philip got up signaling Ethan to follow him which he did without question but not before throwing Nadia a bad gales.

“ marriage?, Ethan”, he asked as soon as they were alone in the other sitting room. This was a private sitting for his own privacy.

“ tell me, why will you want to marry Nadia, because you and I know that the money in question is nothing compare to what you have and clearly you don’t need that money, so why go into marriage with the daughter of you debtor”

“ am just trying to be cautious, I mean, for good ten years her father refused to pay back the money that was loaned to him with an excuse that his company is passing through so financial problems for ten years, ten years, so what makes them so sure that within a short period of time, they will be able to come up with the money?” he doesn’t even know if what he said was the right answer

“ so marrying his daughter is like a guarantee that he will pay back, right?” he said still trying to process it, he wasn’t just convinced.

“ yeah”

“ and when he finally finish paying, you will get a divorce?”

Ethan hasn’t thought about that, he narrowed his eyes as he thought about what he was asked.

“ Ethan, you have to do better than that”

Ethan looked at him in confusion.

“ I don’t get you”

“ Nadia is a good girl, and I will say she will make a good wife too, so having her as a wife won’t be a problem, come son, let be teach you something about business”

He held the confusing Ethan on his shoulder as they both went back to the sitting room, whatever that was going on in that old head of his isn’t going to be good.

Rushing into the hospital, she met with the receptionist who directed her to the ward where she met her mother who was sitting just beside her father crying, she stood at the door frame not knowing what to do, with a heavy heart, she walked slowly towards her mother. Elena snapped her head toward the direction where she felt the presence of someone only to see her daughter, she felt relieved and at the same time burst into more tears, Nadia not baring to see her mother looking so valuable rushed to her and warped her hands around her as she too relieved the tears she has been trying so hard to hold.

They stayed like that for a long time before they both disengage, Nadia head shifted to her father who is lying unconsciously on the hospital bed, he looked so pale, how can a man that was so healthy be reduce to this, she let her tear fall freely from my eyes, not bothering of wiping them, they were both lost in our own thoughts just staring at him.

Then suddenly her father began to shake violently, they both spring up to their feet, they were confused on what was happening, her mother rest her head on his chest, rounding her arms around him as she tried to settle him, she was crying uncontrollably now, Nadia rush out of the room to get the doctor, who rushed in with her followed with two nurses, one of the nurses rushed to her mother taking her away from her father chest to give room for the doctor, her mother stood just close to her, Nadia eyes held fear as she gaze upon her father who has stopped moving, she prayed silently, the doctor stopped what he was doing as he faced both of them, her held a sorrowful expression on his face not knowing how to break the news, he has tried his best but nothing would have been done.

“ is he okey now?”, asked Nadia who wasn’t patient to wait for the doctor to say something, Nadia saw the look on his face but choose not to believe what that looks means, she doesn’t want to believe it, she fears for the outcome, the doctor shook his head in sorrow, only that did pass the message as all hell was let loose, as the mother collapsed on he ground crying and shouting while the nurse tries to clam her down. Nadia just stood there staring at the lifeless body of her father without knowing what to do, her father, her brother, her friend, her mentor and all is dead.
