Never Lost

Read Story: SEASON 1 EPISODE 23

DAY 2 – BRING BACK KUNDAI

There are some things that you don’t need to be quiet about. Kundai hadn’t come back home yet and Shane had resorted to some measures. He had to inform her parents that she was missing; Sandra was utterly shocked when she heard that her daughter had moved in with a boy. Oh no, Kundai might have been mad with her parents but Sandra didn’t expect her to stoop so low as to move in with someone she had just met a month ago. Well she could have been grateful about that, Shane was a good man and he wasn’t going to hurt her, he was going to take good care of her. Jerome told her that this wasn’t time to fight or ask Shane endless questions, they had to find Kundai. Jerome had already asked some people from higher places to help him find his daughter. At least a weight had been lifted off his shoulder, thought Shane to himself and Thelma was already worried afraid that maybe Diablo had taken her.

None of the people in the room was thinking about the crazy girlfriend, well Kundai was reserved and her parents never would have guessed that she had been seeing someone for 5 years now, she was very secretive. On the other hand, they didn’t know anything about Diablo, Kundai had to keep them in the dark and the new crew had to do the same thing.

Leo walked inside the house with some few groceries.

‘Kundai, I brought you something,’ he said to her as she had been reading a novel.

She placed the novel on the table and wore her slippers that he had bought for her. She walked to where he had placed the plastic bags and he removed the big box from 1 of the plastics. He handed it to her.

‘You can open it,’ he excitedly said to her and she just opened it.

Inside the box was a white wedding dress and some shoes, diamond necklace and a small box. When she opened it, they were two rings.

‘Do you like the dress? What about the rings?’

‘What is the meaning of this?’

‘We are getting married and after that we are leaving the country. They have already started looking for you Kundai and I swear that wasn’t part of the plan. Once Diablo sees you, you are dead. I now know everything Kundai; I know why you have been asking around about Farai. He is the reason why your twin sister is dead right?’

She didn’t want to hear Nyasha and Diablo in the same sentence that made her very angry. She didn’t want to respond to his question and went back to read her novel.

‘I am sorry if I hurt you with what I asked but Kundai,’ he said sitting beside her, ‘have you thought about me? What I would feel if something bad happens to you? I know my cousin brother very much Kundai, he is undefeatable. You should stay away from him and as far as you can. I know I messed up Kundai but I am going to make it up to you, I will save your life from him. I won’t let him touch you like never. Say something Kundai.’

‘I am not getting married to you Leo and I am going after him, I am not scared of him.’

‘Kundai, you don’t understand. We are not talking about some other dude but Satan’s child and you know Satan and God have always been enemies. What makes you think that you will win? None of those people who tried to fight Diablo survived to tell a tale. Look at your parents, your twin sister and your grandmother.’

She looked at him with a raised eyebrow,

‘You are not the only one who knows how to dig information. I did my homework Kundai and I know what you are planning to do that is why; I am trying to stop you from walking into the lion’s den. I am saving your life from that devil who calls himself Diablo. Kundai, I might have messed up what we had but I love you and I care about you a lot. It was just a moment of weakness that led me to Chido, I don’t even love her but it is you that I love and I am not to give up on you. You might not want to marry me 1 day but you will be my wife 1 day. They have started looking for you,’ he handed her the poster.

‘Why are you doing this?’ she asked giving him back the poster.

‘Doing what Kundai?’

‘You try to protect me from him.’

‘Because I love you Kundai,’ he said taking her hand, ‘I am so sorry for hurting you Kundai. I just messed up what we had because I thought you didn’t give me the attention that I needed but now more than ever you need my protection. I will take you back home but I will need to keep a close eye on you, I don’t want anything bad to happen to you.’

‘Look now you have gotten yourself into trouble. They will arrest you for kidnapping,’ she got up from where she was sitting and walked to him.

She sat beside him and held his hand.

‘I know you want me to be safe but hiding won’t help anything at all. The more I keep hiding, the more he continues to hurt a lot of innocent people. I need to end this killing once and for all. With your help I know I can do it, please babe just let me go.’

He looked at her with so many thoughts running through his mind. Clearly she didn’t understand what he was saying, he wanted to save her from Diablo but then she was being very stubborn.

‘I can’t let you go Kundai,’ he said getting up.

Kundai saw that he had forgotten to lock the door; she stood up from the sofa and ran to the door.

‘Kundai!’ he shouted running after her.

She was about to get outside when he grabbed her by her waist and pinned her on the wall.

‘Let me go,’ she shouted trying to break free from him.

‘I can’t do that.’

She slapped him hard on the cheek as he was holding her so tightly but he didn’t let her go. She grabbed his genitals and he screamed in pain as she squeezed them so hard. By letting her go, he pushed her and she slipped on the floor losing her balance in the process and she fell down hitting her head on the glass table. She was down on the floor unconscious and bleeding when he realized what he had done. He walked to her and knelt down on the floor.

‘Kundai,’ he called out shaking her but she didn’t respond, ‘oh my God! What have I done,’ he said sending himself into a panic.

He got up and grabbed his phone to call his friend. Thank goodness, the friend had already reached out to Shane and the rest of the team looking for Kundai. When Leo had called, he immediately informed them that he had called and this was the chance to save Kundai from him. Leo was now pacing up and down waiting for his friend not knowing that he was coming with a company.

Kundai slowly opened her eyes and her throat was dry. Shane had slept at the hospital, it’s been a week now since they found her and Leo was taken to prison. Even in prison, he couldn’t stop talking about Diablo and that he was afraid he might try to hurt Kundai. He kept on pleading with the prison guards to let him go. Well none of them believed him; they all thought that he was crazy since he had kidnapped Kundai before. Leo felt helpless, powerless and he felt weak as a man. Now that he was prisoned, he knew that he was never going to be able to save Kundai from Diablo’s wrath. They sure should have just let him go because he knew what he was talking about and he wasn’t at all bluffing as they would call it. Anyway Kundai asked for some water from Shane and he gave it to her.

‘What happened?’ she asked just after drinking the water and not sure of what had happened to her.

‘You don’t remember what happened?’

‘I don’t.’

Shane got worried since she had hurt her head. He was scared that she must have lost her memory.

‘I will be back shortly,’ he said.

‘Okay,’ she responded.

He wanted to go and ask the doctor if Kundai was really okay. I mean when she gained her conscious, he just did some easy tests on her and maybe this needed him to make a scan, something like that. When he walked to his office, Kundai got up from the bed. She needed some sunshine and her parents were on their way to see her. They already had been told that Kundai had finally opened her eyes by Shane. Thelma was going to pay her a visit later on that day together with Simba. Kundai walked out of her room to the rooftop. This wasn’t the first time she had been brought at this hospital; no this was probably the second time and she knew her way round.

At the rooftop there was a man with so much regrets about life. After having been told that his cancer had reached the last stage, he was completely shattered. Never in a million times had he thought that 1 day it will come to this. The people he had killed, the innocent people he had hurt, he saw them every day in his dream. This all started when he lost the woman he loved. Right now he just wanted to change, the elders had refused to help him with his illness as they said it was something beyond their control. It was something that they were not willing to change. The only way out for him was death. As he looked up at the sky, all he could think about was how he was going to change. He had never believed in God. No, they made him believe that he was their enemy but now more than ever he wanted to know this God. He had dropped some weight.

‘Excuse me!’ Kundai said as she thought the man was about to commit suicide where he was standing.

He thought he could easily recognize the familiar voice; he just shook his head without looking back. He knew he had been seeing her lately in his dreams and even in daylight. She called out again and this time around he turned back. Yes, it was her.

‘What do you want again Nyasha?’ he asked thinking that it was her again in spirit.

When Kundai could easily recognize the man standing in front of her, her heart beat at an increasingly rapid race. This was the man she had been looking for and there he was standing right in front of her but then he looked different. He had lost weight and had a bald head. They just looked at each other and Kundai was in shock.
