Episode 26

Micheal not minding the two beings manning his daughter, he walked towards Adesewa, brushed her hair back and bent to kiss her forehead. “I love you baby” he murmured.

“She’s soon be awake, we sedated her for her to have a sound sleep, she’ll wake up anytime from now.” the doctor said

“When will she be discharged” Micheal asked.

“She’s alright, the cause for her earlier fainting was as a result of shock, the magnitude of the shock must be so exhilarating to have weighed her down so much, she’ll be discharged so tomorrow” the doctor replied.

“Thank you so much doctor, I owe you.” he said feigning a smile.

The doctor left murmuring an excuse of him seeing some patients.

“Thanks so much Paul” Micheal said raising his gaze to meet Paul’s. “This is Adesewa my daughter”

“I came to visit my neighbour when I saw you passing hurriedly, I wanted to just greet you but couldn’t catch up with you until you entered here. How’s she now? And what’s wrong with her?”

“The doctor said she has shock and will be better soon” Micheal said.

Niphemi and Anita simultaneously looked at each other, guilt evident on their faces.

Paul looked concerned genuinely, caught Anita’s gaze at Niphemi, he tried to make eye contact with her but it seems she’s avoiding him.

Micheal had to catch up with an appointment, he wanted to cancel it before but decided to go ahead with it when the doctor said she’ll be okay. But he’s still puzzled by what would cause his Bestie so much shock, that’ll have to wait till she has recovered.

He was suprised to meet Anita in the hospital, how did she know about Adesewa’s plight, he would have chased her out, but had second thought about it since he didn’t forbid her seeing her daughter, and moreso she has the right doesn’t she?.

“I want to go and check on the naighbour I mentioned earlier, I’ll check back on her when I’m leaving” Paul said making for the door.

“Thanks so much Paul, we’ll have a proper discussion later” Micheal said following him.

After the departure of Micheal and Paul, Anita can now breathe and the room’s previous silent and gloomy atmosphere was restored.

The atmosphere was peirced sharply by the ringtome of Niphemi’s phone, he answered the call without enthusiasm but seriousness seeped into face as he was on the phone. He picked himself up with the phone still glued to his ear and hurried out.

Now alone with her sleeping daughter, she dragged herself nearer to the bed and cried uncontrollably, begging her unconscious daughter, pleading for forgiveness. She was lost in her own world when she heard the door open and someone come in. She turned and met the gaze of Paul.

Frustrated that everyone are bent on destroying her life, she knows she has to fight back and save some face for herself. With a new-found vigour, she rose from her seat, and walked bravely towards Paul.

Now is the time to deal with him.
