Day 10 of 35

She walked into the room and wasn’t shocked to see Yande there, he was wearing an extra head and a dose of courage on his shoulders. She knew he was an intelligent man and he must have done something to attain his current state.

‘Good morning Ellie.’ He greeted

‘Good morning.’ She responded closing the door behind her

She went to stand by the window, her back facing him.

‘What do you want to talk about today?’

She didn’t respond. She wasn’t in a good place.

‘Mwewa hurt me badly, he defied our home and everything we had vowed on the alter.’

‘Okay.’ Yande responded not expecting it

‘Life was pretty hard after meeting the woman he had met, I know he tried to hid it. That he was the same man, that nothing had changed but I knew him. So well that I didn’t need evidence to know of the things he was doing behind my back.’

Yande sighed

‘Should I switch on my recorder?’

Ellie nodded.

It was the night just before Ellen’s first day in first grade, she was excited so was I. I mean who could have thought that the baby I had been holding just recently as a tiny being was now moving away from kindergarten to primary school.

I was putting everything in place and even though I would have loved for my husband to help me out, I didn’t know where he was.

I got to the bedroom and was shocked to see him there, I didn’t hear him walk in.

‘Good evening.’ I greeted getting out of my clothes

I wanted to take a bath

‘Good evening.’ He said looking at his phone

He was smiling as he read a text on his phone, I had been seeing these smiles alot. I didn’t even want to ask where they were from.

‘I will be leaving home early the next one week.’

‘Okay.’ He responded

‘Mwewa okay?’

‘Alright.’

I sighed deeply

I had a storm brewing within me but for a moment I realised it wasn’t worth it, he wasn’t worth it.

I went and took a bath and found him standing in the same position that I had left him earlier.

‘Bashi Ellen would you care to tell me who you have been talking to.’

He typed something into his phone before looking in my direction.

‘What are you talking about?’

‘Don’t play innocent with me, you are busier these days. You spend more time on your phone, we talk less and are practically living like strangers in this house.’

‘Ellie it’s too late and I have an early meeting tomorrow, so if you dont mind.’ He said

Just then his phone notification buzzed and he looked at me before opening his phone, I saw his face soften; no one can mistake the face of a cheating man.

I closed my eyes and thought of the many reasons I could use to bring the issue up, but also I thought of the many other excuses he would give me just to silence me. How could someone be okay with sleeping with another person whilst still committed to another? It disgusted me, it made me feel cheap. It made me feel unappreciated but most importantly it made me feel like I wasn’t enough. But then again I knew something that my mother always told me, a cheating man will never get enough. He will get from one end to the other and still want more because that is just him.

The next morning I woke up with a pounding headache, I wasn’t shocked because I had slept little from the thinking.

I started first by making sure Ellen cleaned her teeth, I then bathed her before handing her her breakfast. I ate with her and when she was done I asked the maid to dress her up before I went to bath. By the time I was done Ellen was ready and we left, leaving Mwewa in bed.

I dropped her off at school before proceeding to work, that day I just went to see my supervisor and signed in sick.

I couldn’t go home, the environment wasn’t going to do much for me, so I booked into a lodge where I tried to sleep but sleep doesn’t do much when its the soul that is tired.

Ellie paused

‘Why didn’t you talk to someone? A friend, just anyone.’

She chuckled

‘What was I going to tell them? Where was I going to start from? That I suspected my husband was cheating on me?’ She asked

‘Yes.’ He responded bluntly

‘Yande the world we live in doesn’t operate like that, it makes excuses for the ways of a cheating man. A woman will always be blamed and the world will say there is something she did or didn’t do that pushed the man to behave like that.’

‘That was stereotypical thinking.’

She sighed

‘I guess, but times without number I had heard the saying that it was better to cry in a benz than on a bicycle.’

‘Cliche.’

‘Yes.’

‘Please go on.’

I couldn’t sleep no matter how much I tried. I turned and tossed and it was only eight in the morning.

So I decided to log into Facebook and something hit me, I could stalk my husband and maybe see if there was a lady he had been chatting with.

I logged out of my account and tried to log in with his since I knew his password but was shocked to see that he had changed it.

So without wasting time I called a friend of mine that worked for airtel, he had been asking me out for a long time before he finally gave up after I got married; but once in a while he still texted how much I still meant to him.

He agreed to give me my husband’s call logs for the last three months, said it was illegal and could get him fired but was happy to do it because it was for me.

‘So you literally started to invade your husband’s privacy?’

She smiled

‘If you can call it that, yes.’

I came across one number that he frequently called, I didn’t have to think about it to know that it was the same lady. Going back to the logs it showed that they started to talk the time of the tournament, now I just had to figure out if she was part of the companies sponsoring or he had just met her.

After dialing her number on true caller I had her name.

Abigail.

Though without a surname.

That was enough for the day, it was already lunch and Ellen was knocking off at 1:30PM. So I left the lodge and went to pick her up before we headed home.

This time around I managed to sleep with my daughter beside me.

‘What happened next? How did you find out more about her?’

I chuckled

It was only after a month that I came up with more information about this Abigail lady, she appeared on my ‘People you may know on Facebook.’ Mark Zuckerberg must be really intelligent for putting up people that may possibly be sleeping with our partners on people you may know.

I spent that week finding out more about her, what she did for a living. What she had to her name. Who her parents were, her brother. Everything about her. And when I was convinced she had nothing that I didn’t I stopped.

‘So as a wife you knew who your husband’s side chick was and decided not to confront her?’

‘The devil doesn’t wear six inch high heeled shoes or a twenty two inch Peruvian wig on his head. He doesn’t wear thigh clings or Swek Matte lippies, the devil is the one you sleep with next to you every night.’

‘I don’t know what you just said but I get your point.’

Ellie dusted her pants and got up, Yande was on to something and she liked that he was panicking hence trying to find out how much she knew. But she wasn’t going to give it to him easy, like a jigsaw puzzle she would give it to him in pieces and he would have to mend it to make a complete picture.

‘I will see you after tomorrow.’ Yande said

‘Mwewa isn’t the only man Abigail was sleeping with.’ Ellie said leaving Yande in a shocked state.
