The Invincible Hunter

Episode 26

Oh, poor Karina. What could she have done in the mist of bones called skeletons and invincible hunters unarmed? She tried to run but they caught her. Suddenly, a light from a vehicle shone at them thereby making the hunters lose concentration on Karina and directed their eyes sU-Ckets to the light.

“Come and get us!” Jack’s voice came from the direction. Karina couldn’t see him due to the reflection of the light rays into her eyes but she recognised the voice and said, “Jack?.” When the light went off, she saw Jack, Randy and Hannah standing beside a car which Jennifer was the driver. She sped off instantly. As the hunters ran to fight Jack and co, Jennifer stopped beside Karina.

“Get inside the car!” she shouted then Korina rushed in as an afterthought sitting in the front seat. She was surprise to see Frank at the back seat too then glance at Jennifer speechlessly.
“Are you okay?” Jennifer also glanced at her.
“I’m fine” Karina replied without looking at her but turned to Frank. “Where are you guys from?”

“We are from the buffulers” Frank
replied.

“Who are the buffulers?”
“I guess Hannah gonna answer that”
“Who is Hannah?”
“Are you kidding me?!” Frank exclaimed, “Okay, Hannah, also known Ann is a girl i love”

“A witch” Jennifer interfered.
“Yes, i love witches” Frank beligerently defended.

“Where are we heading to now?” Karina was still inquisitive.

“To save my family” Jennifer answered and both glanced at each other again.

The battle seemed to be over before Jennifer drove to their residence because they didn’t see any hunter again on their way. They saw police vehicles and an ambulance in front of the house, so Jennifer quickly came out of the car followed by Karina and Frank but the policemen didn’t let her in. Just then, uncle Ben arrived.

“What’s going on here?” Jennifer asked.
“Sorry, Remina, the hunters attacked your parents” uncle Ben replied. He could see the seed hanging on her neck.

At the same time, Jennifer saw her mother and younger sister, Lana being rushed into the ambulance which sped off immediately to the hospital. “Lana? Mum! Mum!!” she tried to run after the ambulance but couldn’t get it. Just then, Jack, Randy and Hannah also arrived to behold the tragedy.

Still in the presence of everyone, another ambulance drove in and Mr. Fenado’s dead body, covered with a black fabric was pushed out from his house.

“Dad?” Jennifer rushed her dead father and uncovered the fabric. She couldn’t bear the pains anymore so she began to cry bitterly. “Nooo!” she fell on the floor crying while the father’s corpes was put into the ambulance which sped off to the mortuary.

“They were attacked by hunters” uncle Ben began. “I guess your father died when he was trying to save the life of your mother and little sister whom i believe will be okay” he drew closer to Jennifer. “All this wouldn’t have happened if you had handed over the seed for destruction”

“Uncle, stop!” Jack tried to meet his uncle but some policemen prevented him from going closer to him. To everybody’s amazement, Jennifer stood up and untied the seed from her neck.

“Please, take it, i don’t want it anymore” she stretched it to uncle Ben in tears.

“You mean..”
“Take it!” Jennifer shrieked then the policemen aimed their guns at her thinking she was about to harm uncle Ben, their commander.
Before uncle Ben could gradually take the seed which produced fire, another group of policemen arrived with a high speed. He turned to them.
“What’s going on?”

“We have a situation, sir. The hunters are gone but i think they are coming back”
“I don’t get you”
“See for yourself?” the policeman
handed a binocular to uncle Ben. He viewed through it and saw a large population of skeletons matching forward in a group.
“Oh, s–t!” he exclaim and handed the binocular back to the policeman. “Get the men ready for war” he said.

“Take this seed away from me!” Jennifer shouted from behind then uncle Ben turned.
“Keep that to yourself until we win the war”
“I said i don’t need it anymore!” Jennifer threw the seed on the floor and began to match it angrily in tears. Jack rushed and held her two arms looking into her eyes.

“Jane, look at me”
“Leave me alone! I don’t need it again!!”
“I will help you!” Jack exclaimed then Jennifer stared at him breathing hastily. “Yes, i will help you carry the seed” he repeated.

Everybody watched Jack bent down to carry the seed which produced fire but he didn’t care anymore. The fire quenched after the seed finally landed on his palm.

“I don’t think that’s a good idea”
Hannah broke the silence. “You will bring to yourself a shameful death by taking the seed because you are changing a prophecy which is just like turning the hands of the clock. The seed is for Remina, and she must carry the cross alone”

Everybody became amazed at Hannah’s words…

Quietness took over the environment after Hannah concluded. Instantly, the sound of several helicopters came from the sky and everybody directed their eyes to them. After they landed, policemen began to troop out of each of them with heavy ammunitions. They began to line up for war because the hunters had also lined up coming from afar. Seeing that, Jack looked at Jennifer still with the seed in his hand.
“If it is a cross that you have to carry, then let me help you carry it”

“I can’t allow you risk your life” Jennifer said and stretched her hand for the seed then Jack reluctantly handed it back to her.
“Take your positions and match forward!” uncle Ben commanded.
“Uncle!” Jack ran to him. “I need a better gun. I wonna fight too”

“And me too!” Randy also approached closer.
“What?” uncle Ben glared at them. “Are you guys insane? Do you think this is a wrestling fight? It’s a war and you’ve not been trained for it”
“All we need it’s a gun to protect
ourselves” Jack objected.
“Both of you should be in doors, even you” uncle Ben pointed at Frank.
“You don’t need to remind me, i already know that, sir” Frank said.
“We are going nowhere, uncle!” Jack insisted then his uncle stared at both of them.
“Alright, you gonna fight, but stay close” he ordered for guns which were given to Jack and Randy. Immediately, Randy walked to Karina and handed his initial gun to her. “Protect yourself” he said.
Jack passed Frank and handed his initial gun to Karina also making it two guns!
“Are you both kidding me?!” Frank
shouted surprisingly. “I cried for a gun at the buffulers’ but nobody cared to listen to my cry. And now you are giving two guns to Karina alone! I guess nobody cares about me here.”
“You can have one” Karina stretched a gun to him.

“What?” Frank became afraid of it.
“I said have one”
“You mean…”
“Take a gun!”
“You know what? You can have the two guns while i watch over you. Let’s go inside the house” Frank walked into the house followed by Karina.

“Alright, let’s do this! Match forward!!” uncle Ben commanded again.

Hannah walked to Jennifer and said, “My fight is over. This particular one is not for people like me but I’m gonna fight to
protect a friend” she stretched her hand for Jennifer to grab as a way of reconciliation, but Jennifer stared at it and ignored her then Hannah became disappointed.

Every citizen of Zumga city was ordered to be indoors as the police waited for the invincible hunters to match forward. After some minutes, they saw a large population of skeletons matching
forward.

“Give us the seed! We need the seed!” they were shouting continuously and matching briskly.
Meanwhile, the policemen had armed their guns at them waiting for a command to pull the trigger.
“Fire!” uncle Ben commanded and they opened fire, even Randy and Jack. Jennifer also fought angrily with her powers, yet protected the seed and Hannah never hesitated to use the staff for the fight too..

FASTFORWARD
The war lasted through out the night until the hunters retreated after they had killed few people. Everybody came out from their houses to smell the victory. Bones of hunters, light of police vehicles and Jennifer’s pictures were seen everywhere. Only then did everybody know who Remina was.

However, Jennifer had gone to the hospital with the seed to see her mother and sister who were still unconscious. She stood in between their sick beds shedding tears. Suddenly, uncle Ben walked in with some policemen.

“Hey, Remina”
Jennifer turned. “My name is Jennifer”
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me”
Uncle Ben signed deeply. “Alright, the mayor is ready to see the seed
destroyed” he said.

Jennifer untied the seed from her neck and reluctantly handed it over. Uncle Ben opened a small box where she put it and they left with it.

The day had become bright. The seed of immortality was set on top of a strong circular metal where it glows in white light. Another metal machine could be seen above it-the machine would be used to crush it into pieces. Crowd of people, both young and old converged around the arena to witness the destruction of the seed.

However, Hannah sat sadly before the piano of her grandmother in their house crying bitterly. “I am the only one left in my lineage. Oh Kesha, why me?” she cried. Just then, Frank slowly walked in, he placed a hand on her shoulder and said, “It’s okay, though I’m not a witch but i will become one because of you. I’m here for you”
Hearing that, Hannah stood and hugged him crying on his shoulder.

The mayor of Zumga city stood at a high place and commanded the seed to be destroyed. At the presence of all, the machine crushed the seed into pieces. Karina, Jack, Randy and others witnessed it even Jennifer who saw it on television. She sadly went home, opened her room and saw the seed on her bed again, then she became not only surprise but also afraid..
