Episode 19

“I was expecting you’d say that,” the Governor said as he reached for the gun that he had tucked in behind him.

I knew what was about to happen next, I knew I was about to watch Emmanuel die before me. I reached for a stick that had been beside me, rushed towards him as he brought the gun out and pointed it at Emmanuel. Before he could get a clear shot, I hit him across the head.

His hand pressed the trigger, but he missed Emmanuel completely. Emmanuel ran towards the Governor as he still held his head where blood was gushing from due to the hit. Emmanuel took the gun out of his hand, and held it to his head.

“You would kill your own son. Wouldn’t you?,” Emmanuel asked angrily.

“Only if he chooses to pull me down like you’ve sworn to.”

At that moment, The guards that had escorted the Governor all ran in with their guns ready, as the sound of the gunshot had attracted them.

Emmanuel quickly grabbed the Governor, holding him hostage and shaking him about.

“I’ll shoot him if any of you come closer. Stay right there,” Chima ordered the men.

The thugs seemed to be considering doing otherwise, so Emmanuel shot a bullet at the roof.

“No Monkey tricks men. I’ll shoot the moment any of you get any funny ideas. Now drop the guns,” Emmanuel ordered.

They seemed to be hesitating, so the Governor ordered them himself.

“Drop the gun all of you, and do as he says.”

“Now, I want you all to step back, and allow this young lady here to walk out unharmed. Nothing is happening to her, and I’m not going to joke with you,I’ll kill him the moment I think she’s in danger. Are we clear?” he asked authoritatively.

“What are you thinking Emmanuel? We have to take his offer, and leave this place. Don’t you think it’ll be easier,” I asked desperately.

“Look at him. Does he look like he wanted any of us alive?”

“You guys can go, if you just drop the gun Emmanuel,” The governor stuttered.

“Nne, get out of here right now. For the sake of your baby…
