Unwanted Baby

Episode 8

I hurried to Mama Emeka’s house, knowing she was Emmanuel’s last chance of surviving. As I banged at their door, I prayed that Emmanuel would still be alive by the time Mama Emeka got to our house.

I knocked a few times, and soon heard movements in the house. A masculine voice, probably Emeka’s, asked who it was. I told him it was Nne, and that Mama had asked me to come and get his mom. He opened up, and quickly hurried inside their house. Moments later, his mother came out with a first aid kit while tying a second wrapper around her waist. She followed me quickly, and asked Emeka to lock the doors as soon as she went out. As we hurried along, Mama Emeka asked me who was giving birth to a baby in our compound that needed her care, as she wasn’t aware of any pregnant person living in our compound.

“It’s not a person that is delivering a baby, its a man that is dying in our house right now,” I said in a solemn tone.

Mama Emeka stopped, stunned and wondering if I was joking. “What happened to him?”

“He was stabbed, and severely beaten up. Mama you’re the only chance he has of surviving this.”

She continued walking, this time now doubling her speed until she was nearly running.

“I’m a midwife, not a nurse. You should have rushed him to the hospital oh,” she complained.

I kept quiet, and continued walking.

When we arrived our house, I found l Mama pacing outside our door. Mama Emeka walked past her into our house, but immediately she saw him she let out a low scream.

“Olisa! I can’t treat this man here. He’ll definitely die in my hands, plus he’s obviously close to his ancestors right now. You people had better rushed him to the hospital oh,” Mama Emeka said and began to leave.

Mama fell on the floor, and began to plead with the woman to at least try and save him. She was willing to pay the woman a #150,000 which was mama’s life saving if she saved his life.

Emmanuel shivered, as his blood soaked our rug where he lay……
